Gefilte Fish

Gefilte Fish

Gefilte Fish

A carp or two or three swim in a bath tub

where am I? what century is this?

and how do we serve these few fish

to the big crowd expected for the holiday?

We stretch the fish by chopping them,

adding matzah meal, for example

we shape them into patties

we beautify the patties with carrot slices

One of my foremothers

must have stood over

the biggest tub they had

and watched the fish swim

and what might she have said to them?

Enjoy your swim
