I looked away

I looked away

A Poem by Tumara Hall
"

My vast worries about my darling daughter growing up.

"

I looked away

I looked away

never checked that you were okay

I looked away

I looked away

I thought it was only one day

I looked away

I looked away

never came outside to play

you grew up

and I never saw

what I had, to thank the lord for,

You were so alone

every glance I took

you said you were okay

to read yourself that book

I never meant to take

as long as I did

It’s not your fault

that I Iooked away

I looked away

I looked away

never checked that you were okay

I looked away

I looked away

I thought it was only one day

It turned into more than one,

I forgot to show you fun,

I looked back and couldn’t find,

The baby I’d been gifted to mind,,

The strange blue eyes

that matched hers,

didn’t need me anymore.

I looked away

I looked away

For more than one day,

I looked away

I looked away

when I looked back

You’ve moved away
