Long Drive Home

Long Drive Home

A Poem by Mackenzie
"

My frequent drives from Spokane, Wa to Portland, Or and back get me thinking crazy thoughts. This is a recollection of a recent drive (which i was not actually under the influence for).

"

Cruising back and froth over the faded white line of the highway.

Killing time in third gear, my dog at my side, whiskey in the middle and a joint to my lips.

Depression got the better of me as the pedal pushes to the floor.

Tears fall from my cheeks as I make that drive, all the way from home.

It seems simple but it's not, 350 miles is another planet away to me and it gets farther everyday.

Seargent Peppers Lonely Hearts blares over the sobs as I blindly drive into the night.

Yet, when I arrive after that drive and the sadness fades away I feel at home here too. And the warm embrace of the new friends awaiting my return keeps me hoping I won't try and forget them again.

Life isn't easy and most times the sacrifices we make can only lead us in the right direction.
