Summertime Means a Broken Heart and a New House

Summertime Means a Broken Heart and a New House

A Poem by Ella Emergency

I have so much to tell you

So much I need to say

But every time I try

My words just melt away.

The world is so confusing

Increasingly as each day unfolds

I don’t want to get past the present

To see what the future holds.

I could tell you what’s on my mind

But I don’t think you’d understand

That you used to be my hero

And I was your number one fan.

A good-bye would’ve sufficed

As a gap formed before my eyes

While I was still taking blind steps

And getting a nasty surprise.

You’ve got an excuse for everything

And a million more for me

Each day my heart is breaking

And I can’t seem to be free.

You’re such a disgrace to yourself

I don’t know why I trusted in you

You talk about what you stand for

But everyday it’s something new.

So this is your only letter

And I wish I would have known at the start

That in your elaborate slew of words

You would quite simply break my heart.
