Comic Relief

Comic Relief

A Poem by Meghan Renee
"

TW: Heavy topic. Tragedy is often joked about out of ignorance or understanding.

"

the stage is set and

i think i’m going to kill myself

it’s a comedy sketch, don’t worry

one where i’m the punchline

hanging from the ceiling

blood pooling beneath me

not an ounce of life left

c’mon, laugh, you know you want to

you’ve done it before, haven’t you?

it’s hilarious

tragedy and trauma

it’s all so, so funny

here, let me set the scene

you’re thirteen and it’s third period

the boy next you won’t stop fidgeting

the girl in front of you won’t stop giggling

here it comes...

BANG!

ha! isn’t that something?

you’re thirteen and your friends are dead

you’re thirteen and you can’t go back to school

you’re thirteen and it’s all a damn joke

see what i mean?

queue the laughter

the applause

let’s all show the world how comical we can be

because that’s what this is

there’s nothing real about it

nothing significant

until it happens to you.

Writing is both my passion and coping mechanism. When I was twelve/thirteen, I became incredibly depressed. I couldn't get out of bed and ended up dropping out of school for the next two years. Dur.. more..
