family

a short poem i wrote while reflecting about how dysfunctional and broken my family is

it's the feeling of knowing i've been surrounded by

victim-hood my entire life

i am another one tainted in a long line of ancestry

right below my parents, right beside my brothers

we carry our shame discreetly

we speak as if we don't know it by name

the nights spent binging, purging until our bodies were

raw wasn't anything special

it's a funny story, really

one where none of us are left unscathed

no golden child, no innocence kept

just the broken remain
