Sylvia And Assia

Sylvia And Assia

A Poem by Ethan
"

A poem concerning the deaths of Sylvia Plath and Assia Wevill.

"
"With a Meinkampf look and a love of the screw,"
That man set his red, wicked eye upon you.
Two girls, one German, and one firmly not,
In the same trap were both easily caught.
One looked for strong men to fill her young bed.
One sought a chest on which to lay her head.

Yet she locked the door with the gas turned on
And the other died with child, left by devil-spawn.
Both alone, both confused,
Both beautiful, both used,
And both dead,
Murdered by the b*****d they called Ted.

I didnt know about this. Thanks for the knowledge...This is...just...tragic. Yeah, sure this was a nice theme to write on. The flow was really good with an excellent rhyme scheme. Short but clearly gives us an impression of your scornful feelings for this terrible incident. Powerful write. Well done!

This is such a sad poem. You described it all so well. What can I say? You are a great poem. Keep writing!

Vasilees.

You capture the sadness and futility of suicie in this Ethan but moreso the fact that the actions and behaviour of people like Ted Hughes is destructive. It fails to be coincidence when this strikes twice. Very well portrayed.

Indeed, thank you John :)
Nightmarish noir poem cleverly penned to flow and rhyme like a child's fairy-tale verse. Macabre truth - "Both beautiful, both used, And both dead"- Killer line (pun intended). Well-done,

I know its tragic but there's a certain beauty in how you wrote this poem. It kept my attention till the end, which I must say can be quite difficult since im picky when it comes to poetry. good work. :)

(wipes away tears) I did not know that this happened. Ethan, you caught the pain and misery perfectly in this tragic tale.

And thank you for continuing to share your amazing writing skills, man. :D
I really despise Ted Hughes when I came to know about his life story. In his poem 'Daffodils' he expresses his love for Sylvia which was written after her death. He didn't value her and Assia too. I loved this poem especially the lines
Both alone, both confused
Both beautiful, both used.
Truly a marvellous piece. I loved it.

You're welcome. ☺
It's a history lesson that had passed me by, Ethan. Thanks for plugging a gap. (There are many other gaps ....) Back in the day of 'O' levels, he was one of the folk I studied. I've just done 5 minutes on him. BTW he died in 1998. Scary how many deaths surrounded him. His son as well.

Regards
Nigel
