A Midwestern Eternity (it's Never Quite Velvet)A Poem by Eternal PoetDistant voices and melodies This quiet moment, a blessing Memories floating, like an ocean of clouds Across a mirror reflection, a placid lake But even when these skies are falling Descending in a melancholy parade It's never quite velvet without you The ephemeral windswept city Of streetlights and glittering sidewalks Haunted on this silent July evening I dig deep down into the unguarded skin Through the bark., limb and the tree Counting infinite years and rings of marrow Hollow, like these decaying brittle bones inside me Spreading like dust over a Midwestern eternity
