Shades of GrayA Poem by LizMy beating heart is the only indicator that I'm alive. Inside I'm slowly fading as my soul turns from a world of vibrant colors to gray tones. Trapped in an imaginary box that seems to be invincible. Banging my fists on the walls but I can't break through the surface. Through shades of gray I see a world of color, swirling as if looking through a kaleidoscope. My hands pressed against these walls What seems to be a thin barrier between shades of gray and kaleidoscope colors. So close, yet untouchable. Held hostage in a world of my making So desperately trying to escape but my design is self defeating. Maybe if I reach out, a hand on the other side of these shades of gray could pull me through. Teach me how to live and breathe colors that have become unfamiliar. Trapped in a box filled with shades of gray, hands pressed against these walls, eyes staring out. Dreaming of living in kaleidoscope colors.
