That Was Just a Lie

That Was Just a Lie

A Poem by Ethan Talby

I remember the first time we met
Your gaze caught me like a fish in a net
We would always send subtle hints
Usually a sex joke ending in a wink
Our attraction was undeniable
Our hearts were pliable
So when I said "Hug me."
I was shocked when you said you love me
Cause I believed this to be a fling
A small unimportant thing
I just hope you don't lie through your teeth
And actually make promises you can keep

You said you love me, but that was just a lie
You said you need me, but that was just a lie
You said I was too good for you, but that was just a lie
I thought I felt the same for you, but that was just a lie

Next time we saw each other I asked "Did you miss me?"
Your reply: "Shut the f**k up and kiss me."
We were on each other like white on rice
This was better than heaven, twice as nice
Then you had to go home
Leaving me all alone
I decide to text you "Hi."
Waiting days for your reply
I realized you had shut me out
And now I'm confused about
Why you would cut our ties
Maybe everything you said were lies

You said you love me, but that was just a lie
You said you need me, but that was just a lie
You said I was too good for you, but that was just a lie
I thought I felt the same for you, but that was just a lie

This verse is the ointment for your itch
That means I'm getting rid of you, b***h
At least I know you were playing with my mind
A temptress just wasting my time
Now that your weight is off my back
I can get my focus back on track
Put my guns back on the rack
Keep stacking these stacks
You were a small inconvenience
That gave me some experience
So the next time I'm betrayed
I won't be afraid and overcome that blockade

You said you love me, but that was just a lie
You said you need me, but that was just a lie
You said I was too good for you, but that was just a lie
I thought I felt the same for you, but that was just a lie
