The Bite

The Bite

A Poem by Ethan Talby

There was once a lost, little boy
With a red power ranger toy
His parents didn't want him
Their budget was too slim
The night was cold and harsh
So he slept in the public park
Woken up by the dawn
And sprinklers on the lawn
Walked and saw a hobo in some ditches
Probably told on by a couple of snitches
Came upon a market and tried to steal some food
He was caught but let go. The owner understood
The little boy felt alone and unclean
Then he saw the saddest thing he has ever seen
A puppy was limping with a missing leg
His body showed that he's never been fed
The boy thought up a plan
And held out his hand
The dog bit hard and deep
The boy's blood began to seep
But the boy didn't mind
Used the other hand to pet it's side
The dog had nothing to lose
And it licked the boy's bruise
The boy and the dog were no longer alone
So he decided to head for home
Sadly, he had no idea where he was
So he walked about with the dog because
His parents will surely be looking for their child
After a while he heard his family and showed a smile
As they held him he didn't feel right
Looked at the dog and then the bite
