The Message

The Message

A Poem by Ethan Talby

You got to look up when the world pushes you down

You got to smile even if everyone is wearing a frown

You got to stand up when you fall

You got to know who to call

It’s not what you say, it’s what you do

It’s what you can do for others and what others can do for you

It’s what you construct from the wreckage

Pay attention because this is The Message

You got to do it when others say no

You got to pick up that paddle if you want to row

You got to get out and move

You got to listen to the world and flow in the groove

It’s not what, it’s how

It’s the performance, not the bow

It’s about the present and the presage

Pay attention because this is The Message

You got to experience and not just read

You got to give up what you want for what others need

You got to make mistakes to grow

You got to go against the flow

It’s not how many, it’s how well

It’s what to do to heal, not how you feel

It’s about leaving a mark when you’re gone

I hope you paid attention now pass it on
