The setting is a small town in Smallville, Kansas. Scene opens with a man driving down a street. Credits roll. It is the afternoon. He stops and parks his truck. He gets out. Only his legs from the knee down are shown. He begins to walk down the sidewalk. He turns right as he passes through a store entrance. The bell rings as he opens it. Someone is seen inside but out of view of the man.

MARTHA:

Hello. How may I help you?

JOHN:

It’s me Martha.

Martha Kent appears for the first time from behind the desk with a look of happiness across her face. She responds.

MARTHA:

John! Back already?

John Kent looks around the room. His face revealed for the frist time.

MARTHA:

I know you aren’t going to like this question but...

JOHN:

No, I didn’t take my pills. No point in slowing the aging process.

MARTHA:

You need those pills for your arthritis.

JOHN:

I need those pills to show off the colors of the American flag. Why would anyone make a pill with three different colors? Pick one and stick with one is what I say!

MARTHA:

Clark isn’t here.

John looks around the room.

JOHN:

Why would I care if Clark is here or not?

MARTHA:

Don’t play that game with me. I know you came looking for Clark. You did not drive all this way from the farm to just say hi.

JOHN:

Of course I came to say hi. Where is Clark by the way?

MARTHA:

School.

JOHN:

School? But it’s Saturday.

MARTHA:

He has a job as his professors’ aide remember? Don’t tell me we need to get pills for dementia.

JOHN:

I don’t need any more patriotic pills thank you. What happened to kids just going to school and then coming home for work?

MARTHA:

Times are changing John. You expect him to stay here forever?

JOHN:

I expect him to stay here until I realize he should go.

MARTHA:

But you’ll never realize he should go.

JOHN:

That’s purely coincidental.

Scene changes to a playground near the outskirts of town. There are two children playing on the jungle gym. It is the afternoon. Suddenly an eerie sound fills the air. Boy #1 places his hands over his ears. Boy #2 soon follows with his hands over his ears. A naked man with long silver hair suddenly appears in the sand box. He looks up at the boys as a wave surges through the area almost as if it is bending space and time. The two boys remove their hands from their ears. The man then falls on the ground dead.

BOY #1:

Hello? Excuse me sir? I think you lost your clothes.

BOY #2:

I don’t think he is breathing.

BOY #1:

 How can you tell?

BOY #2:

His chest. My mom told me that you can tell that someone is breathing if their chest moves up and down.

BOY #1:

Well I heard that you can tell a person is dead if they stop pooping.

Boy #2 gives Boy #1 a weird look. The man suddenly gasps for air. His eyes have changed somehow. His entire eyeball is now red except for his pupil. He stands up and begins stretching.

DOOMSDAY:

Hey kid. What’s the date?

Boy #2 looks bewildered.

DOOMSDAY:

How about you? Or are you mute too?

Boy #1 shakes his head from left to right. Doomsday looks at the boy awaiting an answer.

BOY #1:

Oh, August 27, 1960. Sir, you’re naked.

DOOMSDAY:

It appears I am. Would it be too much to ask for some clothes?

BOY #1:

My dad might have some clothes that fit you. He won’t be home for a few hours and my mom is out grocery shopping. I’m sure he won’t mind. Come with me. I live right here.

Boy #1 points to the house nearest to them.

Scene cuts to from within the boy’s house. Boy #1 opens door.

BOY #1:

Up the stairs. First door on the right. If you hit the wall you went too far.

Doomsday is shown putting on a suit and tie. Boy #1 appears from behind. He is shown in mirror.

BOY #1:

Nice fit. My dad would be jealous.

Doomsday is next shown standing at the boy’s father’s car.

BOY #1:

It still has that new car smell.

Doomsday punches through driver side window. He begins to enter the vehicle. Boy #1 is awe struck.

DOOMSDAY:

Do you think your father would mind if I borrowed his car indefinitely?

Doomsday hot wires vehicle and drives off. Boy #2 walks over to Boy #1.

BOY #2:

And that’s why you don’t talk to strangers.

Doomsday suddenly reverses back in front of the two boys.

DOOMSDAY:

I almost forgot. Where is Smallville Community College?

Both boys point north.

DOOMSDAY:

Thank you very much. You have been a great help.

Doomsday drives off.

Scene changes to Smallville Community College. We look inside one of the classrooms and see a professor and 4 students. All of them wearing lab coats. The professor is Emil Hamilton. He has a missing arm from his service in the war. His hair has some gray hair and is wearing safety goggles. The students are Clark Kent, Lana Lang, Pete Ross, and Lex Luthor. Each 21 years old. Clark has black puffy hair. Underneath Clark’s lab coat he is wearing blue jeans and a school shirt. He is also wearing his glasses. Lex has red curly hair. Underneath Lex’s coat is a nice, white buttoned shirt with expensive black pants, as well as loafers. Lana has long red hair that is tied behind her head. She is wearing a light blue dress. Pete has puffy blonde hair. He is wearing tan slacks as well as a school shirt. There are two medium-sized containers on the lab table. Professor Hamilton begins.

HAMILTON:

Before we go talking about what these two are can you please put on your safety goggles?

They all proceed to put on their goggles. Lana suddenly stops Clark from putting his on.

LANA:

Clark. Your glasses.

Clark gives out a small laugh at his own forgetfulness as he takes off his glasses.

CLARK:

Thanks Lana.

He proceeds to put his goggles on like everyone else.

HAMILTON:

Now before you all leave I want to show you these two containers which hold a different form of nitrogen. Can anyone tell what each hold?

PETE:

Nitro glycerin.

HAMILTON:

Very good Pete. How can you tell?

PETE:

They’re labeled.

All the students laugh while Professor Hamilton stares at Pete with malice.

HAMILTON:

Can anyone tell me what they do?

Everyone stops laughing. Lex speaks with a stern tone.

LEX:

Nitro glycerin is an explosive compound. It is the main ingredient in dynamite.

PETE:

I can’t see that on the label.

CLARK:

Do you want to get fired?

PETE:

Depends.

CLARK:

 Depends on what?

Pete looks at Lana. Staring deeply into her eyes.

PETE:

Depends on who is coming with me.

Lana quickly changes the subject.

LANA:

Why are you telling us this professor?

HAMILTON:

Because I don’t want any of you to mix anything with these chemicals. Plus you should know that I own a dangerous chemical. Otherwise someone may use it for something stupid.

Professor Hamilton picks up the two containers from the table, and proceeds to put them away.

HAMILTON:

You’re dismissed. Don’t forget to place your safety goggles in the bin and place your lab coat’s on my desk. Thank you.

They all proceed to put away their goggles and coats. They each leave the door. First, Pete. Then Lana. Third Clark. Lex stops at the door.

LEX:

Clark! Wait for me at my car!

Clark shapes his hand in an OK symbol. Pete turns to Clark.

PETE:

What do you think he is going to talk to the professor about?

CLARK:

Your guess is as good as mine.

PETE:

 Not if mine is right.

LANA:

Just let him be. It’s probably something personal. That’s why he doesn’t want us to hear.

Lex turns around and walks towards Professor Hamilton.

HAMILTON:

Question Alex?

LEX:

Professor Hamilton? What kind of recognition would one get from finding a rare mineral within a meteorite?

HAMILTON:

A lot. Why do you ask?

LEX:

Nothing. Just curious. Bye.

HAMILTON:

Bye.

Lex walks through the school’s halls. He arrives at his car. A beautiful red Porsche with Clark sitting in the passenger seat.

CLARK:

What was that about?

LEX:

 What was what about?

CLARK:

You staying behind in the classroom.

Lex starts the engine and backs out from the parking space.

LEX:

Forgot my keys.

As they drive out of the parking lot Doomsday drives in. He doesn’t notice either Clark or Lex because of the sun in his eyes. It is nearly dusk. He proceeds to park. He gets out of the car and walks to the office. He sees a directory of the school. He places his finger at the top of the list of teachers on the right of the map. He moves down the list. He stops at Professor Hamilton. He moves his finger slowly to the right and finds a room number. He smiles menacingly.

Meanwhile, both Clark and Lex sit quietly in the car as they drive on the main road to the center of town. Clark breaks the silence.

CLARK:

We have known each other for several years, right?

Lex nods at the question in agreement.

CLARK:

You still haven’t told me why you moved here.

LEX:

 I didn’t.

Clark has a look of bewilderment.

CLARK:

 Then…

LEX:

My father sent me here to stay with my mother and sister. He wanted me to get a better understanding of the working man. The moral man. The poor man. He thought it would be good for me when I take over the company. To, you know, get involved with the employees.

CLARK:

 And?

LEX:

I don’t know Clark. He wants me to become President when I grow up, did you know that?

CLARK:

You told me he wanted you to follow in his footsteps when you …

LEX:

Not the President of Luthorcorp. The President of the United States.

Clark looks at Lex with astonishment. He begins to laugh out loud. Lex gets angry.

LEX:

What?!

CLARK:

You do need a better understanding of the working man.

Lex smiles back at Clark. Lex’s face then fills with sorrow.

LEX:

He is coming over tonight from Metropolis.

Clark shows a look of shock.

CLARK:

Hey! Look out! You’re going to miss the shop!

LEX:

No we aren’t.

Lex quickly turns the steering wheel hard to the right causing the car to spin into the parking spot outside the store. Clark is gripping to the car door with his right hand while his left is on the car seat.

LEX:

Still not used to my little speed demon?

CLARK:

You know I hate fast cars.

LEX:

At least it’s better than that bucket you call a truck. How many cylinders does it have again?

CLARK:

Hey, I would always pick my truck over your Porsche.

They get out of the Porsche and head for the store entrance.

LEX:

Then why, good man, do I drive you to school on Saturday’s?

CLARK:

I don’t want to waste the money on gas.

Clark opens the front door to the store. The bell rings. Lex enters first.

LEX:

Don’t you mean you don’t have enough money for gas?

John clears his throat loudly so that the two boys hear him.

JOHN:

Hi there Alex.

LEX:

Please Mr. Kent. My friends call me Lex.

JOHN:

Why are you here Alex?

Lex shows worry across his face. Clark intervenes.

CLARK:

We are here to pick up my science fair project from last year.

JOHN:

You mean my goggles? Why do you need them? The science fair isn’t for another 6 months.

LEX:

 We wanted a head start.

JOHN:

In your family Alex “a head start” is bad news.

LEX:

I am not my father.

JOHN:

Are you still going to tinker with them? Last year’s science fair you nearly blew them up with the auditorium.

CLARK:

We know what we are doing this year Pa. Trust us.

JOHN:

 Well I don’t.

LEX:

And this year instead of just x-ray we are putting in an entire EM scanner.

JOHN:

That’s just great. Martha? Are you just going to sit there and let them do this?

MARTHA:

It’s not my quarrel. Not even my goggles. I said they should build a volcano. But you said that was too expensive. And too dangerous.

JOHN:

How is a volcano not dangerous? It shoots out magma for Christ’s sake!

Clark whispers to Lex.

CLARK:

I’m going downstairs to pick up the goggles.

LEX:

 Alright.

Clark walks by his parents who are still arguing. He goes in the backroom and walks over to the rug on the floor. He removes it to reveal a secret cellar door. He proceeds to open it. He walks down the wooden stairs until he reaches the bottom. He reaches for the light switch. He pulls it to reveal a square room. In the middle are the goggles. He walks over to it. As he grabs it he hears a voice that repeats Kal-El. He looks up and sees a large, blue crystalline structure. Standing 3 feet high and 2 feet wide.

LEX:

Clark?

Clark turns around and sees Lex peaking through the cellar door.

CLARK:

I’m coming. One moment.

Clark takes a rag a throws it over the crystalline structure.

LEX:

What’s that?

Clark pushes Lex out of the cellar.

CLARK:

It’s something we got at a swap meet.

LEX:

 Nice.

Clark closes the cellar door and places the rag over it.

CLARK:

Whatever. It’s nothing special. Let’s go.

MARTHA:

The chances of a volcano harming anyone in this town are the same as a tornado hitting Los Angeles.

CLARK:

 Bye. I’m going to Lex’s.

JOHN:

I’ll call Pete and tell him to meet you at Alex’s.

Clark and Lex leave as the sun sets.

JOHN:

 I thought they’d never leave.

MARTHA:

Me either.

John proceeds to pick up Martha and carry her upstairs to their bedroom.

Scene cuts to the middle of an ominous and dark alley. A similar sound fills the air when Doomsday appeared. A man suddenly appears. A similar wave emanates from his direction. He is a small Asian man. His skin has a glossy shine. It is shown that he has no reproductive organs. He walks out of the alley into the street. It is nighttime and there is no one out. He spots across the street a car with the door open. There is a man inside a building paying a bill for clothes. Even though the clothes are inside the car. The mysterious man sneaks across the street and into the car. He closes the door.

WORKER:

Hey! Someone is stealing your car!

MAN:

You son of a…!

The mysterious man starts the car and begins to drive away.

MAN:

Get back here!

The mysterious man grabs a newspaper on the passenger seat.

TOYMAN:

 Date confirmed.

He looks in the rear view mirror and sees a pair of black shorts and an unbuttoned tropical shirt.

Scene cuts to Professor Hamilton’s classroom. The room is in ruins. There is blood everywhere and a lot of science equipment is broken. The camera slowly pans from one side to the other ending at the door where Doomsday is standing. Hamilton is shown in chair behind desk covered in blood. All the while Doomsday is in monologue.

DOOMSDAY:

I have to say I am impressed. You put up a good fight. That trick with the scalpel was impressive. But what kills me only makes me stronger. I swear I feel like the Monster and you Dr. Frankenstein. I’m sorry. Am I confusing you? By the way, is it okay if I borrow these?

He holds up the two containers of nitro glycerin.

DOOMSDAY:

And thanks for making these. Good thing you did that before the scalpel, right?

A zipped up bag is shown across his shoulder. Its contents are unknown.

DOOMSDAY:

Don’t look so worried. Someone is bound to find you. Then again you may not keep until Monday. Have a nice weekend.

He turns off all the lights and closes the door. Darkness fills the room as the only noises that can be heard are Hamilton’s moans of pain and Doomsday singing “Smile” by Charlie Chaplin.

Scene skips ahead. Doomsday continues to whistle. He opens the trunk to Hamilton’s car. Placing the two containers within. Then he opens the unknown bag. It is not shown what is within because he is behind the trunk door. He zips it closed and puts it in the trunk. He holds up two car keys. He looks to the one next to his.

DOOMSDAY:

I think I’ll leave Emil’s here. For later.

He walks to the other vehicle as the shot fades away.

Scene fades to the outside the Luthor mansion. A car is waiting outside. Inside the car is the mysterious Asian man. Then the camera slowly zooms in on a small wooden building attached to the side of the house. The inside is shown. It is a laboratory designed by Lex. Clark and Lex are shown using screwdrivers on John’s old race goggles. They are blue with a blue tint on the visors. They proceed to finish screwing.

LEX:

That should do it. Try them on. Start slow though. We don’t want to keep fixing them.

Clark proceeds to put them on.

CLARK:

I can’t see anything. Oh, wait. Let me set it to visible.

Clark pushes a small button on the right side of the goggles. Suddenly he can see perfectly fine.

LEX:

Is it clear enough? Do we need to increase the definition?

CLARK:

No, no, no. It’s perfect. Now what should I try first?

LEX:

 Radio.

Clark presses a button on the bottom left of the goggles. Suddenly an array of red lights fills the room like a tide going towards the sea. He can hear a radio station.

CLARK:

The antenna inside the goggles work great.

LEX:

Good. That was a concern of mine. Try infrared now.

Clark pushes another button on the left side of his goggles. He can now see the heat signatures of all the objects in the room. He sees a large container that is dark red which signifies a low temperature.

CLARK:

What’s that?

LEX:

It’s nothing.

Clark removes the goggles and sees a sink where the large container was. He puts the goggles back on.

CLARK:

Now let’s try x-ray.

Clark sees a similar large container from Professor Hamilton’s room. But it is different. Clark lifts the goggles and leaves them on his forehead. Clark begins to walk over to the sink. Lex steps in his way.

LEX:

Looking for something?

CLARK:

What’s in the container? And don’t say there is no container. I have x-ray vision.

LEX:

It’s… liquid nitrogen.

CLARK:

Why do you have liquid nitrogen?

LEX:

I didn’t steal it if that’s what you meant. I am simply testing it in regards to cryogenics.

CLARK:

That stuff is dangerous Lex. You could spill it on yourself and then what?

LEX:

I’m careful Clark. Relax. Can you continue testing x-ray?

CLARK:

 Yes. I can.

Clark places the goggles over his eyes. He looks around.

LEX:

 Works well? No instabilities?

CLARK:

None whatsoever.

Clark notices a small box that he can’t see through.

CLARK:

Is that lead? What is it?

Lex looks up. A smile spreads across his face.

LEX:

It’s what I asked Professor Hamilton about.

Lex pauses for a few seconds.

LEX:

It’s a meteorite. Made up of a very rare substance known as kryptonite.

Clark looks surprised.

CLARK:

Like from space? Lex, that’s amazing.

LEX:

Here I’ll show you.

Lex takes the box and opens it. Inside is a small rock with green crystals embedded within it. Clark stammers.

LEX:

 You okay?

CLARK:

I don’t feel too good.

Clark sways and falls to the ground.

LEX:

Clark! Are you okay? Tell me what’s wrong.

Clark slows starts standing up.

LEX:

No. You need to sit down a little more.

CLARK:

I can handle it Lex. What happened? I suddenly felt ill when you showed me the meteorite.

LEX:

You must have had an allergic reaction to the rock.

CLARK:

Or I just didn’t feel well.

Clark finds his statement unbelievable. Since he has never been sick.

LEX:

Impossible. This room is completely enclosed. Nothing can get in or out without me unlocking the main door. It had to be the rock. Were you born with a defect? Or was there a special condition concerning your birth?

Clark shows worry.

CLARK:

No, at least no different than yours.

LEX:

Must be your unique physiological structure.

CLARK:

 What?

LEX:

Everyone is medically different Clark. That has to be it. Your physiology.

They hear the door bell.

CLARK:

I thought you said nothing gets in or out.

LEX:

I connected the door bell with a speaker in this room. I wonder who it could be.

CLARK:

Its Pete remember? We are going camping tonight.

LEX:

That’s right I forgot. Where is your camping gear?

CLARK:

He has my gear. I need to go. Can you unlock the door?

Lex looks confused for a moment. The door bell rings again. He realizes he needs to unlock the door.

LEX:

Of course.

Scene cuts ahead showing Clark getting in Pete’s car. Lex waves good bye as they leave. They drive off and Lex goes back inside. Turning off the lights in the process. The Asian man turns on his car and begins to follow the two.

Scene cuts ahead to show Clark and Pete setting up their tents next to a fire.

PETE:

You are an amazing guy Clark. You know that?

CLARK:

 How do you mean?

PETE:

You got Lana to get a job in a class she doesn’t like. You and Lex have lab experiments up the yin yang, and you get me to go camping with you.

CLARK:

You forgot Eagle Scout.

PETE:

Silly me. And you’re an Eagle Scout. Happy?

CLARK:

Always. Hey, after we set up the tents and eat we should star gaze.

PETE:

 Where?

CLARK:

In the tents.

PETE:

 Boring! How about that ledge?

Pete points to ledge not far from the fire.

PETE:

So that we have leg room.

CLARK:

I’m pretty sure that isn’t safe.

PETE:

Live a little Clark. Put yourself out there.

Clark shows worry in his eyes.

CLARK:

Fine. We’ll sit on the ledge. Happy?

PETE:

Always.

Scene cuts ahead. Clark and Pete are sitting at the ledge. Below is a small dirt road with a small boulder across from them.

PETE:

Have you ever looked into the stars and wondered about what’s out there?

CLARK:

Out there?

PETE:

Yeah, you know. Aliens and UFO’s and stuff.

CLARK:

Sometimes, why?

PETE:

I just wish that an alien will come down and greet us. Like Klaatu.

CLARK:

Who?

PETE:

Klaatu. You know. Klaatu barada nikto!

Clark shows a look of bewilderment.

PETE:

Haven’t you seen The Day the Earth Stood Still?

CLARK:

No. Is it about . . . monsters?

PETE:

Are you serious? Have you seen any movies?

CLARK:

I prefer a good book. Have you read To Kill a Mockingbird?

Pete shows the same look of bewilderment.

PETE:

Clark, the reason I asked you to go on this camping trip with me is because I wanted to tell you something.

CLARK:

What is it? Are you and Lana breaking up?

PETE:

 No. Not that.

Pete pulls out a small box from his pocket.

PETE:

I’m going to ask her to marry me.

CLARK:

Oh my God! Congratulations!

PETE:

I don’t know how to do it though.

CLARK:

Just do it when the time is right.

PETE:

How will I know? And don’t say you just will.

CLARK:

Do it when you think she will be the most surprised.

PETE:

Thanks Clark. I can always count on you.

CLARK:

No problem buddy.

Clark then pats Pete on the back. Sadly, he underestimates his strength and Pete falls off the ledge. He rolls down the hill and lands in the center of the dirt road.

CLARK:

Pete!

Clark notices a car coming down the road. He looks back at Pete and tries to think what to do. The car is getting closer. Too close.

The driver is shown from within the vehicle. He is Doomsday. Doomsday looks up to see Pete. He recognizes him. He smiles with malice. He steps further on the gas pedal as he is about to hit Pete. Something collides with the side of his vehicle and causes the left door to crumble and crush his left arm. His car flips once and hits the boulder. The boulder causes the entire left side of his body to be crushed.

Pete stares up from the ground. He sees Clark standing where the vehicle used to be. He slowly loses consciousness. Everything becomes blurry until he is finally unconscious.

Clark stares at the now destroyed car. He grips at his shoulder in pain. He walks over to Pete. He is unconscious. He sighs in relief. He picks up Pete and brings him to the side of the road opposite the wrecked vehicle. He places his ear next to his mouth. He is reassured that he is still alive. He proceeds to check the driver of the vehicle across the road. He enters the vehicle from the passenger side, which is not crushed. He puts his two index fingers on the man’s neck. After a few seconds he removes his fingers in horror. He backs out quickly from the car, at a human pace. He falls to the ground and scrambles to get away. He is mortified. He tries to calm himself as he gets up. He walks over to Pete and sits next to him. He tries to focus but can’t. Clark begins to talk to Pete while Doomsday is slowing getting out of the car in the background. His skin slowly turning a harrowing gray.

CLARK:

Pete? I know you can’t hear me right now but I just want to say that it’s my fault. I just can’t control myself. How could anyone? Pete? I’m not like the other kids. I may seem weak and dumb at times, but that isn’t who I am.

Doomsday is shown in the background getting out of the car completely. He begins to walk over to Clark and Pete.

CLARK:

I don’t enjoy lying. It isn’t how I was brought up. I feel good saying this out loud for once. Even if you are unconscious. But... now that man is dead because of me. I can’t keep lying. I can’t pretend that I just killed a man.

When Doomsday is halfway across the road a pair of headlights spring to life right in front of him. He is then hit by a car. The car brakes after hitting him causing Doomsday to fly backwards. A man opens the door. It is the glossy metallic man. Clark stares in shock and horror.

CLARK:

 You just killed that man.

TOYMAN:

Not really.

He points ahead and shows that Doomsday is beginning to get up.

TOYMAN:

Now get in the car. I said get in the car now! Quickly! Before it starts moving!

Clark picks up Pete and puts him in the back seat of the car. He then moves to the passenger seat. The mysterious man then goes in reverse.

TOYMAN:

 Hold on!

Doomsday is up and begins to run towards the vehicle while it drives away in reverse.

CLARK:

What kind of man is that! How is he still moving!

TOYMAN:

 Get ready for the switch!

CLARK:

 What!?

The mysterious man quickly turns the car back around causing the back to hit Doomsday and fling him to the side. He shifts to drive and continues. He examines Pete.

TOYMAN:

Some mild head trauma. We should get to the hospital in case of a possible concussion.

CLARK:

Do you mind telling me who you are and why you look like you just put a whole canister of tanning lotion on?

TOYMAN:

I am a cyborg. Originally known as Hiro Okamura. Now Known as the Toyman. Clark Kent, I am here to ensure your survival.

Scene shifts to Doomsday. He is shown getting up. He runs to his car. He pulls it away from the boulder. He looks at the bump on the side and punches it out. He gets in the car and proceeds to chase after the other vehicle.

Scene shifts back to Clark, Hiro, and Pete.

CLARK:

From what?

TOYMAN:

From him. I need to ask you was he dead?

Clark gives a look of freight. He repeats the question.

TOYMAN:

 Was he dead?

CLARK:

Yes, but… wait where are you even from?

TOYMAN:

The future. Same as him.

CLARK:

If you are from the future then why didn’t I just send myself?

TOYMAN:

Because only inorganic materials can get through.

CLARK:

Than how did he get here? He is organic.

TOYMAN:

That thing is not human. It is a genetic being created by the Cadmus Association to systematically adapt to any lethal objects in contact with it. He was made specifically to not only kill you but to also survive the temporal displacement.

CLARK:

 What does that even mean?

TOYMAN:

It means every time you kill it. It comes back stronger. Immune to whatever caused its expiration. Now it is immune to the drawbacks of time travel.

CLARK:

That’s impossible.

TOYMAN:

You mean as impossible as an alien trying to fit in with humans.

Clark is shocked. A car hits the back of the car. It is Doomsday.

CLARK:

What the…!

TOYMAN:

Grab the wheel!

Clark grabs the wheel in desperation!

CLARK:

 What are you doing!

Toyman then opens a compartment in his lower right abdomen. Clark stares in amazement. Toyman pulls out some spiked balls.

CLARK:

 What are those for!?

Toyman opens the car door. He leans out and throws the spiked balls at the wheels of the other car.

TOYMAN:

For the obvious.

The spiked balls cause Doomsday’s vehicle to fly in the air. It crashes and flips a few times.

CLARK:

Holy cow! How did you do that!

TOYMAN:

I am a cyborg. Do you believe me now?

CLARK:

There is no way that type of technology exists.

TOYMAN:

 It exists. Just not yet.

CLARK:

If what you are saying is true then why was he sent here to kill me?

TOYMAN:

Because in the future you are the greatest hero in human history. And your life is known throughout the cosmos as the man of steel.

CLARK:

 This is crazy.

TOYMAN:

No. That’s Bruce’s department. You’ve only dealt with organized crime, masterminds, or compulsive evildoers.

CLARK:

 Which one is that thing?

TOYMAN:

 Organized crime.

CLARK:

 Really? I wouldn’t think that…

TOYMAN:

Of course not! He is obviously a compulsive evildoer.

CLARK:

Why do you say that?

TOYMAN:

 Say what?

CLARK:

Evildoer.

TOYMAN:

Do you know of a more appropriate word, because I sure don’t.

CLARK:

Can you stop it? That thing.

TOYMAN:

Right now yes, but it will become stronger.

CLARK:

Turn here. But what happens then.

TOYMAN:

Then I won’t be able to stop it. It will become so crazed that it will lash out at anyone, but for now its targets are your friends and family.

CLARK:

 What can we do?

TOYMAN:

We have to slow it down.

CLARK:

Why is it attacking my friends and family? Why not average civilians?

TOYMAN:

To smoke you out. It knows you will do anything to protect your loved ones.

Clark worries and wonders about his parents.

TOYMAN:

Take these. We need to hide you.

CLARK:

In plain sight?

TOYMAN:

It has the greatest probability of success.

CLARK:

Are these… greaser clothes?

TOYMAN:

Yes they are clothes for the motorist type.

CLARK:

 Where did you get these?

TOYMAN:

I borrowed them from an exceptionally nice man. He said something about a shower, but I said no. Do you know what that would do to my circuitry?

CLARK:

Never mind. Stop the car! We are here!

Clark gets out of the car and removes Pete from the back seat.

CLARK:

Wait here. I need to make sure he is okay.

TOYMAN:

Don’t take too long. I may be eternal but I am impatient.

Clark walks into the hospital with Pete in his arms. He walks to the receptionist.

CLARK:

Excuse me could you get some medical attention for my friend.

RECEPTIONIST:

Could we get a gurney here! What happened?

CLARK:

He fell off a ledge. He rolled for about 25 feet.

RECEPTIONIST:

 Any head trauma?

CLARK:

 Yes.

Two men arrive with a gurney.

RECEPTIONIST:

 Take him to room 9A.

CLARK:

Can I come with him?

RECEPTIONIST:

 Are you family?

CLARK:

Yes. I am his cousin.

The receptionist allows him through.

Scene cuts ahead. Pete is in a hospital bed. Clark sits beside him staring down at the new set of clothes he has just received. On top of them are his goggles.

CLARK:

I’m sorry Pete but I need to do this.

Clark looks up at the bathroom stall and proceeds to walk inside it to change.

Scene shifts to Toyman outside the hospital. He waits inside in the vehicle. People walking by stare at the bump on the hood and the bump in the back caused by him hitting Doomsday. He looks around and decides to leave the vehicle.

Scene shifts back to Clark in the bathroom. He has changed into the new clothes. He now has blue jeans, a blue shirt, and a leather jacket with red lining. He begins to comb his hair back with water so that he appears to have greased hair. As he finishes he puts on his goggles.

CLARK:

I can’t even recognize myself. I feel like Atticus Finch turning into Elvis Presley.

He exits the bathroom and finds that Lana is in the room.

LANA:

Who are you? What are you doing here?

CLARK:

I’m… Mr. Smith. I am a reporter. I came in regards to the accident.

LANA:

Reporter? You don’t look like you are from the newspaper?

CLARK:

I was called out here. While I was in my biking clothes. It was a last minute thing.

LANA:

Biking clothes?

CLARK:

 Motor biking ma’am.

LANA:

Well as you can tell my friend isn’t doing too well so I don’t think he can answer your questions thank you.

CLARK:

Yes ma’am. He must be a good friend for you to come all the way here just to see him. Is he your boyfriend?

Clark notices the small box on the table next to Pete.

LANA:

 Yes, but…

CLARK:

But what?

Clark begins to slowly walk towards the table.

LANA:

You know you sound familiar. Like a friend I know.

Clark deepens his voice to a heroic tone.

CLARK:

Sorry. I had something in my throat.

LANA:

What was I saying?

Clark stands in front of the table.

CLARK:

Boyfriend?

LANA:

You don’t need to hide it. I saw it already.

CLARK:

Hide what? I don’t know what you are talking about.

LANA:

The ring. I’ve known about it for a while now. He does a poor job at hiding it.

CLARK:

And yet you state he isn’t your boyfriend?

LANA:

I never said that.

CLARK:

 Then what was your meaning?

LANA:

I love someone else. Someone who doesn’t make everything a joke. Someone who cares.

CLARK:

But he loves you. Shouldn’t you take that into consideration?

LANA:

I don’t know. I am confused right now.

CLARK:

We are all confused. It’s just that some deal with it better than others.

LANA:

How are you confused?

CLARK:

I can’t seem to find my place is all. What’s this boy’s name?

LANA:

Clark. He is a farm boy. He lives next door to me.

Clark looks shocked.

CLARK:

I actually know him. Small world isn’t it?

LANA:

Small town. How do you know him?

CLARK:

Through his parents. We go back.

LANA:

Funny. You don’t look that old. In fact you look young.

CLARK:

I don’t go that far back. Do you want my advice?

LANA:

Sure.

CLARK:

Clark has more troubling issues he has to deal with. That boy isn’t looking for love because he knows it will never work out. It’s out of his reach and you should take the thought out of your head. What I am trying to say is, be with the one you’re with if you can’t be with the one you love. Do you understand?

LANA:

I’m just so confused. I love Pete, but Clark makes me feel like I can fly.

Clark hides his worry from Lana.

CLARK:

How did you even know he is here? He just arrived.

LANA:

My professor.

CLARK:

Dr. Hamilton? What happened?

LANA:

I went to his classroom and found him near dead. It was… a difficult sight.

Clark remembers that Hiro said that the creature will attack friends and family.

CLARK:

Where is he? I must speak with him immediately.

LANA:

He is three rooms down. On the left.

CLARK:

Thank you. Please watch over him. Keep him safe.

Lana nods her head as Clark exits the room. He proceeds to walk to Dr. Hamilton’s room. He steps through and sees Dr. Hamilton covered in bandages.

CLARK:

Dr. Hamilton? Are you awake?

Emil Hamilton slowly opens his eyes.

HAMILTON:

Who’s there? Is it you again? I told you where he went what more do you want?

CLARK:

Dr. Hamilton? It’s me, Clark. Who are you talking about?

HAMILTON:

Clark! Argh! My chest!

CLARK:

Try not to talk too loud.

HAMILTON:

I’ve been through worse in the war. Clark. Come closer.

Clark leans in to hear him better.

HAMILTON:

Clark. Someone, something, came to my room and attacked me. He, it, whatever it is, is after you. He threatened me. So, I built some triggers and gave him a vile of arsenic. I tried to stop it. I thought I killed it. But it regenerated. That thing is no man.

CLARK:

 Did you tell him anything?

HAMILTON:

I told it you were going to the Kent General Store.

Clark’s eyes widen. He begins to leave

HAMILTON:

You don’t seem frightened. Have you already encountered him?

CLARK:

Sir, either you didn’t notice or otherwise, but you just said him.

Hamilton’s eyes close as he looks down upon himself.

Scene cuts to Clark walking up to the same red car that Toyman was driving, but no one is inside. He looks around and sees all the bumps from earlier. Suddenly a blue car pulls up behind him. Toyman is sitting inside.

TOYMAN:

The other one was drawing too much attention.

Clark gets in the passenger seat.

TOYMAN:

That was longer than previously expected.

CLARK:

I ran into Emil Hamilton.

Toyman turns to Clark in intrigue.

TOYMAN:

Dr. Emil Hamilton? The professor?

CLARK:

Yes, he told me to get to the store. We should hurry.

Toyman parks the car and turns it off.

CLARK:

What are you doing? My family might be dying right now.

TOYMAN:

Emil Hamilton.

CLARK:

Yes, Dr. Hamilton. Let’s go!

TOYMAN:

He designed, crafted, and grew that creature. He designed it specifically for you.

Clark stares in awe.

CLARK:

You said it was the Cadmus Association.

TOYMAN:

He is the top executive scientist at Cadmus. Cadmus gave him the project.

CLARK:

Can we go now? My parents need me.

TOYMAN:

 You are amazingly calm.

CLARK:

I have yet to reach my breaking point. Pray you won’t be there when I reach it.

Toyman starts the car and makes a U turn. They head for the Kent General Store.

Scene shifts to the Luthor mansion. The entire family is sitting at the table eating dinner. Lex’s father, Lionel, is sitting next to Lex.

LIONEL:

How are you doing Alex? Keeping up in your studies?

LEX:

 My name is Lex.

LIONEL:

Your name is Alex, and I shall call you Alex. Why are you angry with me?

LEX:

How could I not be?

LIONEL:

I have given you everything money can buy. Do you not appreciate these things? This house. Your education. Many people want what you have.

LEX:

I’m not people. Money can only get you so far.

LIONEL:

Money is power. Power is respect. Respect is all. Someday you’ll learn that.

LEX:

 Only if you die.

The door bell rings.

LETITIA:

 I’ll get it.

She walks to the door and opens it. Doomsday is shown standing there. The two containers on the ground. There are some constructs on top of each container with a solid red light. Emil Hamilton’s stolen car is shown in the background with the trunk partially open.

DOOMSDAY:

Long drive to get here.

LETITIA:

May I help you?

Doomsday pulls some rope from behind his back.

DOOMSDAY:

Don’t give me a hard time.

Letitia screams. Lionel sees Doomsday with the two containers and rope.

LIONEL:

Get down!

Lionel pulls out a gun from his coat. Doomsday runs at him.

DOOMSDAY:

Ahhhhhhhh!

The bullet silenced Doomsday. A small hole is visible from his forehead.

LIONEL:

Are you okay Letitia?

His wife nods.

LIONEL:

Bring in his stuff and close the door. Lex, call 911. Lena, get a towel.

Letitia brings in the containers and closes the door. Lex walks over to the phone as Lena walks to the laundry room.

LEX:

Hello? 911? Someone just tried to rob us, or murder us. I can’t tell what his intentions were. My father shot him. We are at the Luthor mansion. Thank you.

LIONEL:

 How long?

LEX:

20 minutes. They said it would take a while because we live so far.

LENA:

 Here is a towel.

Doomsday begins to twitch.

LENA:

Ah!

LIONEL:

 Don’t worry. That’s normal.

The bullet from the Doomsday’s head begins to come out. As it is finally ejected from his head the wound closes shut.

LEX:

That is most certainly not normal.

Doomsday proceeds to stand up. The cracks his neck.

DOOMSDAY:

Annoyance.

Lionel points the gun at him and begins firing. Each round bouncing off. Doomsday takes the gun from him and crushes the barrel.

DOOMSDAY:

 Annoyance.

Doomsday then pushes Lionel with a single hand, yet with enough force to have him hit the wall. Everyone stares. He walks over to the rope. He holds it up.

DOOMSDAY:

You do it. Or I do it.

Scene cuts to outside the Kent General Store. Clark and Toyman arrive to find the store broken into and the inside destroyed. Clark rushes into the house with super speed.

CLARK:

Ma!? Pa!? Where are you!?

JOHN:

 Clark.

Clark rushes to the upstairs room. He finds both parents laying on the floor. Both are severely poisoned.

CLARK:

Pa! What happened?

JOHN:

A man came. He poisoned us.

CLARK:

With what?

JOHN:

Can’t remember.

MARTHA:

Told you we needed to get pills for dementia. He gave us arsenic. It’s fatal.

CLARK:

Hiro! Call an ambulance! Don’t worry. You’ll be okay.

JOHN:

Clark, in case you don’t see me again I want you to take this.

John hands Clark a badge with wings and an S in the middle.

CLARK:

What’s this?

JOHN:

It’s a Service Pilot Badge. I got it during World War II.

CLARK:

You told me you were never in the military.

JOHN:

It is awarded to citizens who fulfill military-related duties. I even wore my race goggles when I flew.

CLARK:

Why are you giving me this?

JOHN:

As a reminder. Whatever happens Clark you need to stay strong. You need to stand as an example for all those with none.

MARTHA:

You can do great things. You just have to realize that you are a great person.

Clark puts on the badge. Tears roll down his cheeks.

CLARK:

 I will bring you justice.

Clark picks them up and places them on two chairs.

MARTHA:

 We love you Clark.

CLARK:

I need to go.

Clark exits the store. We see Toyman closing the trunk of his car.

TOYMAN:

The ambulance will be here in 5 minutes. We need to leave before they arrive.

Clark walks over to a vehicle on the side of the road. He lifts up the back end and proceeds to reach down the bottom so as lift it all off the ground. Clark yells in anger as he lifts the vehicle above his head. He smashes it into the hood of another vehicle. He lifts it again and repeats four times. Finally ending with smashing it through the top of the other vehicle. Lodging it inside. Toyman grabs Clark from behind and throws him on the ground. He jumps on top of him and holds him to the ground.

TOYMAN:

Calm down! You need to calm down! What if someone was here!

CLARK:

 Get off of me!

TOYMAN:

I know what you are feeling. But if you go down this path there is no coming back.

CLARK:

He killed my parents!

TOYMAN:

Stop talking as if they are already dead.

CLARK:

You are from the future. We both know that they are going to die. Arsenic is incurable. I need to stop him!

TOYMAN:

Revenge only leads to more revenge. You are better than this. You are the hero that is better than this.

CLARK:

No I’m not!

TOYMAN:

Your father would be ashamed. Both of them! They know you. They know your potential.

CLARK:

What do you know of my father?!

TOYMAN:

I know he was an alien. Just as you. If you want to go after this thing with vengeance then count me out.

CLARK:

You can’t do that. You have to protect me. That’s your mission.

TOYMAN:

My mission was insuring the safety of a superman, but you are less than a man. A man knows what must be done and is willing to face the consequences of his actions. Do you know what you are doing? Do not tarnish your life here with vengeance. Embrace it with justice and order.

Clark calms down. He stops struggling.

CLARK:

You’re right. I’m sorry. You can let go now.

Toyman slowly lets go of Clark and helps him back up.

CLARK:

We need a plan. How are we going to track it?

TOYMAN:

Do your goggles have an antenna?

CLARK:

Yes. We could intercept police radios and find out where he is.

TOYMAN:

Shouldn’t be difficult. He sticks out.

CLARK:

Unlike you? A Japanese cyborg in Cold War America?

TOYMAN:

I thought this shirt made me blend well. I hear sirens. We must leave.

Clark stares up at the room window. He hopes that they might live knowing that they won’t. They flee in the car.

Scene shifts to the inside of the car. Clark has the goggles on and are trying to find radio signals.

TOYMAN:

Remember, we must be discreet. We can’t crash into anything are start a brawl.

CLARK:

I hear one.

TOYMAN:

 What’s the news?

CLARK:

 Something about a hostage situation.

TOYMAN:

That’s probably him. Where?

CLARK:

Still haven’t said where. Wait. The Luthor mansion. Go!

Toyman is surprised as he speeds up the car.

Later on they arrive at the scene. Toyman parks the car in the bushes out of sight from the police parked outside the mansion. All the blinds are closed so no one can see inside.

TOYMAN:

What do you see?

Clark uses the x-ray vision on his goggles to see inside the house through the curtains.

CLARK:

The family is tied up on some chairs. It appears that the creature is sitting at the table.

TOYMAN:

Doing what?

CLARK:

Just sitting. It is holding what looks like a detonator.

TOYMAN:

 Can you see any explosives?

CLARK:

Yes, two containers. I’ve seen them before. In Dr. Hamilton’s classroom. It must have taken them. Hey, can we give it a name? Saying “it” or “the creature” is just wrong. Everyone should have a name.

TOYMAN:

The Association did give it a name, but I thought best not to tell you.

CLARK:

What’s its name?

Toyman looks at Clark in fear.

TOYMAN:

 Doomsday. They called it Doomsday.

Clark gulps.

CLARK:

So, what’s the plan?

TOYMAN:

First, we need to get the hostages out of there. They are the priority.

CLARK:

 And then disable Doomsday.

TOYMAN:

You get the hostages. Enter from the back. The front is too guarded.

CLARK:

And the police in the back?

TOYMAN:

I’ll take care of them. It’s best if you enter from a second story window.

CLARK:

And if I can’t disable him?

TOYMAN:

You must.

Police officers are shown in the back of the house. They are knocked out one by one.

TOYMAN:

 Knock out darts.

CLARK:

Why can’t we just use that on Doomsday?

TOYMAN:

His skins too hard at this point. Quickly get inside before the other officers notice.

Clark then leaps up onto the second floor. Doomsday hears the landing. He puts the detonator in his pocket. He then begins to go upstairs. Clark slowly opens the window. He enters the house. In front of the window in an open door and then the balcony. He hears Doomsday coming. He sneaks behind the door. Doomsday reaches the second floor. He looks into the room and sees the open window. He smiles.

DOOMSDAY:

You came.

Doomsday continues to walk on the balcony down the hall. Clark comes from behind the door. As Doomsday turns the corner Clark comes out of the room. He looks down the balcony and sees the Luthor family. As he looks down we see Doomsday come from another door in the room Clark just entered. Clark turns around and sees Doomsday. Doomsday gives out a large battle cry as he rushes Clark. They fall off the balcony and land on the glass dining table. Doomsday is on top of Clark. Clark pushes his feet off Doomsday causing Doomsday to fly backwards into the ceiling of the first story. He falls back down next to Clark. Clark picks up a piece of glass and puts it on Lex’s lap.

CLARK:

 Cut yourself free!

Doomsday lashes out at Clark. Clark dodges it and heads for the laundry room near Lex’s laboratory. Doomsday gets up and chases after him. Clark enters the laundry room and picks up the washer. When Doomsday comes in view of Clark at the laundry room entrance Clark throws it at him. Doomsday is slammed against the wall, but easily breaks free.

DOOMSDAY:

Is that all!?

He attacks Clark who quickly grabs a piece of piping and hits Doomsday over the head only to find it pointless.

DOOMSDAY:

Too strong.

CLARK:

Damn!

Doomsday picks up Clark and throws him through the wall right over the stairs. Clark lands in front of the Luthor’s.

CLARK:

He can sure throw.

Clark sees Lex desperately cutting at his rope. Clark turns around to see Doomsday stepping through the newly made hole.

CLARK:

One moment.

Doomsday rushes at Clark and Clark at Doomsday, but Clark begins to spin at the point of collision so as to be behind him. Doomsday turns around. He runs at Clark. Clark jumps in the air as Doomsday collides with him and rams him into Lex’s lad door. This is highly reinforced. Clark puts up his hands in a defensive boxing position. As Doomsday starts punching Clark Lex finally breaks free from his restraints.

Lex looks around for a weapon. he looks at the fire place and sees an iron. He picks it up.

The bolts on Lex’s lab door give way as Clark is punched inside. He is bleeding profusely.

DOOMSDAY:

 Weak.

LEX:

Just die!

Lex then comes from behind and hits Doomsday between the legs, but to no avail. Doomsday, annoyed, turns around. He picks up Lex from his neck, choking him. He then throws Lex inside the laboratory with Clark.

DOOMSDAY:

Weak.

Everyone hears a beep. Doomsday turns to look at the two containers. The light has turned from red to yellow. He reaches in his pocket and finds the detonator crushed. The light on the containers switches from solid yellow to blinking yellow.

LEX:

 Nooo!!

Lex gets up. He begins to run towards his family. Clark intercepts him and covers him on the ground.

CLARK:

 Down!

Lex sees the lead box and reaches out for it. He clenches to it for dear life. He light on the containers turns to green. Doomsday’s eyes widen.

DOOMSDAY:

 No.

The police outside stare at the building in wonder.

PARKER:

What was that? What’s going on in there?! I didn’t authorize a take down!

Suddenly a massive explosion erupts from the building. It takes up the entire building with Lex’s lab only being partially destroyed. The police officers shield their eyes from the blinding light and the massive heat.

PARKER:

 OH s**t!

As the explosion finally stops Clark looks up. The entire lab is in flames. Lex starts coughing very loudly.

CLARK:

Don’t worry! I’ll get us out!

Clark starts to hold Lex and lifts him in his arms. Lex then drops the lead box. It falls open to expose the kryptonite. Clark begins to falter. One of his knees hit the floor, but he stands back up. He walks to a burning wall that is nearly gone. He kicks at it, but it does not falter. He kicks at it again. He hears a crack. He then decides to throw his body at it. He does so and succeeds. He and Lex are outside safely. The effects of the kryptonite wear off as he looks down at Lex. He places Lex on the ground. His hair is nearly gone and he is smoking. Clark takes off his jacket and places it on his head. He then looks up at the burning building.

CLARK:

 Time to improvise.

Clark then begins to inhale a great deal of air. While doing this the flames begin to shrink. Smaller and smaller. When Clark’s lungs are filled the flames are still there and continue to burn away. He then releases the air from his lungs in one burst in the fashion of an air compressed gun. He aims for the top half of the house. The blast is so strong that the flames are expunged and the top half of the building is gone. It can be seen that the sun is beginning to rise from the half destroyed home. Clark then stares down at Lex and then out towards the crowd of not only police but reporters. The crowds of reporters scream out to him while the police begin to run towards him. He takes his jacket off Lex and runs into the woods. Gone. Chief of police Douglass Parker stops at Lex.

PARKER:

After him! He is a vigilante! Can we get a doctor!

Parker picks up Lex and brings him to a gurney. Two men take him to an ambulance. As they place him inside he can see fireman pull out a near skeletal structure of Doomsday. His face hardens in hate. The two men close the ambulance doors.

Scene cuts to 3 days later, Wednesday. It is noon. Clark stands before two tombstones. He is wearing a suit and tie. His father’s badge is on. The tombstones are marked as Jonathan Kent and Martha Kent. He stares at them in sorrow. In one arm is a bouquet of daisies. In the other is a box. As he places the daisies in between the two graves Lana is shown behind him.

LANA:

I’m so sorry Clark. They were…

CLARK:

Good people. And the good always die young. They were the exception. They lived there lives without regrets. I will also be an exception, for them.

LANA:

The papers say that the man who killed them was also killed Lex’s family. At least the Smallville Kid stopped him.

CLARK:

Smallville Kid? Is that what they are calling him? He is the reason my parents are dead. As well as Lex’s family.

LANA:

You don’t know that.

CLARK:

I know more than I should. And that’s dangerous enough. To know.

Lana walks over to Clark. He turns to her. They stare into each other eyes. She kisses him.

CLARK:

I don’t want to put you in danger.

Clark pushes her away.

LANA:

I love you Clark.

CLARK:

Lana, don’t make this difficult. Pete needs you. And right now I’m needed. I love you Lana. I’ll always love you, but love is temporary. Be with the one you’re with. Don’t choose me.

LANA:

I’ve already chosen you.

CLARK:

Then you chose wrong.

A tear rolls down Lana’s cheek. It reminds Clark of how he cried for his parents.

LANA:

Why are you being so cold?

CLARK:

I’m not cold. Just lacking warmth.

Lana walks away failing to hold back her tears. Toyman comes out from behind a tree. He looks at Lana leave. He holds up a newspaper. The front cover showing Clark blowing out the flames with the headline The Smallville Kid Strikes!

TOYMAN:

It has begun.

Clark rushes to Toyman and pins him against a wall.

TOYMAN:

You must really love her to push her so far away from harm’s way.

CLARK:

I saw what you did.

TOYMAN:

What did I do?

CLARK:

You activated those bombs. You killed an innocent family. For nothing.

TOYMAN:

 There was a purpose.

CLARK:

 What purpose?!

TOYMAN:

I was simply trying to kill two birds with one stone.

CLARK:

What? What are you implying? That Lionel is evil in the future. That’s no excuse to kill him and his family.

TOYMAN:

Not Lionel, Lex.

CLARK:

 What? I don’t understand.

TOYMAN:

Alexander Joseph Luthor is the future CEO of the Cadmus Association as well as the President of the United States. If you would please let me go I could explain further.

CLARK:

Only if you answer one question.

TOYMAN:

Agreed.

CLARK:

Who sent you?

TOYMAN:

The Vice President. Peter Ross. He found out about Lex Luthor’s plans and sent me here. He then destroyed the temporal displacement hardware.

Clark then let’s go of Toyman. He is in a state of shock.

CLARK:

So Lex sent Doomsday here to kill me. And Pete sent you here to save me. But why? Why would Lex do that?

TOYMAN:

As I said before, you are the greatest hero in human history. And Lex is your arch-nemesis.

CLARK:

For what purpose? I’ve done nothing to him.

TOYMAN:

He fears what you will become. Not what you’ve done. Emotions. They are your greatest downfall. Clark, listen to me. It isn’t over.

CLARK:

What? But Doomsday is gone. They said the only thing left was his skeleton.

TOYMAN:

It is simply a temporary setback for him. He will be back, and this time neither I nor you will be able to stop him.

CLARK:

Just tell me what I have to do.

TOYMAN:

Come with me.

Toyman leads Clark to his stolen car.

CLARK:

I can’t believe the police haven’t found this car yet.

TOYMAN:

They aren’t really the brightest.

Toyman opens the trunk. He pulls out the small crystalline structure from Clark’s basement at the store.

TOYMAN:

I’m just happy he never found it. Recovered it when we went to your parents.

CLARK:

What’s that thing doing here?

TOYMAN:

It is the key Clark.

CLARK:

The key to what? Stopping Doomsday?

TOYMAN:

In a sense. It will give you power to stop him. All you have to do is touch it. I calculate that we will have seven days before Doomsday arises.

CLARK:

What?! No.

TOYMAN:

Clark. This is your basket. It brought you here. Let go of your emotions.

CLARK:

Okay. What do I have to do?

TOYMAN:

See this symbol.

Toyman points to a small diamond shape with a figure 8 in the middle.

TOYMAN:

Touch it.

CLARK:

Only I can do it I’m guessing.

TOYMAN:

Correct.

Clark reaches out to touch it but stops.

CLARK:

And I will be able to protect everyone?

TOYMAN:

Correct.

CLARK:

I think it would be wise to contact someone. Let them know I’ll be gone for a while. How long do I have before Doomsday resurfaces?

TOYMAN:

I calculate a week’s time.

Clark walks over a phone booth across the street from the cemetery. He makes a call to an unknown person as Toyman watches. Clark finishes and then walks back to Toyman and the structure.

CLARK:

Let’s do this.

Clark looks down at the graves of his parents and feels for something in his suit pocket. Clark touches the mark on the structure. He suddenly disappears. Toyman stands there by himself staring at the spot where Clark stood. As well as where the structure stood.

TOYMAN:

That was… uncalculated.

Scene cuts to Antarctica. Clark and structure suddenly appear. It is 7 AM and the sun hits Clark in the face. The region is cold but dry. Clark raps his arms around his torso. He pulls out his goggles from his suit. He removes his glasses and puts on the goggles.

CLARK:

What the hell? Where am I?

E-RAD:

Antarctica. I’m sorry if it’s a tad cold. I had to pick the most desolate area.

CLARK:

Who said that? Where are you?!

E-RAD:

I am here Kal-El. I have brought you here.

CLARK:

I can’t see you!

E-RAD:

Look forward.

Clark looks forward and sees the crystalline structure ahead of him.

CLARK:

You got to be joking.

E-RAD:

I am E-RAD. Mark II. I was built by your father, Jor-El.

CLARK:

My father?

E-RAD:

Yes. He downloaded his consciousness into my hard drive. In a sense, I am your father. I flew you here from Krypton.

CLARK:

My home planet? What happened to it?

E-RAD:

You are the last. The last son of Krypton.

Clark buries his head in his lap. He is cold and confused.

CLARK:

Do you have any shelter?

E-RAD:

Depositing crystal seed.

Clark hears a loud noise. Cracks appear from underneath the structure. The ice starts to crack.

CLARK:

What’s happening?!

E-RAD:

Your fortress. It’s rising.

Suddenly crystals from everywhere begin to spring forth from the ground. Clark continues to hold himself tight. Closing his eyes. He cannot see what is accruing around him. Loud cracking noises begin to fill his head. When the noises stop Clark begins to feel warmer.

E-RAD:

Rise my son.

Clark raises his head to see that he is inside a room surrounded by crystals. He looks in front of him and sees a hologram of a man with a red and yellow robe. Behind the hologram is the blue crystalline structure. The hologram is in between two statues holding a globe. It is the globe of Krypton. The two statues are Clark’s parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van

E-RAD:

Hello Kal-El. Welcome to your Fortress of Solitude. I know you must be confused, but don’t be. I have many great things to teach you Kal-El. Your foster parents have trained your mind and soul, but I shall train your body.

CLARK:

Is that my name, Kal-El?

E-RAD:

It is. Are you ready to begin?

CLARK:

How strong will I become?

E-RAD:

Your strength can only grow. In one week I will shape your Kryptonian body into a warrior.

Clark looks down at the box left for him. He opens it. Inside is some clothing. Red, blue, and yellow robes.

E-RAD:

Now where are your Kryptonian robes?

Clark clutches at the robes within the box. They have been recently sewn.

CLARK:

They are here. My mother left them for me, in her will.

E-RAD:

You are strong Kal-El. You are my son. Let us begin.

Scene cuts to within a hospital room. It is the afternoon. A man is laying in a bed. It is Lex. He has bandages over his head. He is asleep but slowly begins to wake up. He awakes and sees a person standing by his bead.

JOE:

Don’t bother to ask. My name is Joe. Joe Graves. The Corporation sent me. I was told to watch over you till you got back on your feet.

LEX:

No reason to lie. I know they just want you to keep an eye on me.

Lex begins to get up from the bed.

JOE:

 You need to rest.

LEX:

Don’t you ever tell me what I need! I know what I need.

JOE:

And that is?

LEX:

Find Emil Hamilton. I need to talk with him. I’m going to the restroom.

Joe stands up.

LEX:

Don’t accompany me. Just find him.

JOE:

And if I can’t?

LEX:

Then you’d move up from finding people to finding a new job. Or should I say moving down.

Scene shifts back to Antarctica. Clark is shown is blue Kryptonian pants. He is meditating.

E-RAD:

Every living thing gives off an aura. Your body absorbs and processes ambient energy, but most of it leaks through your body by means of your aura. What you need to do is channel your aura more affectively. Wrap it around your body as a cloak, or armor. If you concentrate your aura will make you harder, faster, stronger, and better than you have ever been before. But there is flip side. Once you lose concentration you will fall into a state of exhaustion. When in a fight hold your concentration. Good, good, Kal-El. Now, how do you feel?

Clark opens his eyes. His face is serene and clear.

CLARK:

I feel… focused.

E-RAD:

I want you to keep concentrating until it becomes second nature to you. Keep it up for another few hours, then rest. We will keep this up for two days.

CLARK:

Then what?

E-RAD:

Then I show you how to utilize it in combat. Kryptonian martial arts were quite famous.

Scene cuts back to the hospital. Lex is shown in his hospital bed reading “Crime and Punishment”. He flips through when Joe walks through the door.

JOE:

Mr. Luthor.

LEX:

No chit chat. What is your progress? Where is Dr. Hamilton?

JOE:

Well Mr. Luthor I went to the college. Found out he was attacked.

LEX:

Where is he?

JOE:

I’m getting to it. They said that a Ms. Lang came and brought him to the hospital. Now guess.

Lex flips another page.

LEX:

Guess what?

JOE:

Guess which hospital.

Lex looks up and closes the book.

JOE:

That’s right. Here. The floor above us.

LEX:

Did you say Ms. Lang?

JOE:

Yes.

LEX:

Mother or daughter?

JOE:

Daughter. Lovely lady.

LEX:

Now take me to Dr. Hamilton. Immediately.

Scene cuts to outside Dr. Hamilton’s room. Lex looks inside from the window. He stares in hatred.

LEX:

I will be speaking to him alone. Stay. Sit. Good boy.

Lex enters the room. Hamilton is sleeping. Lex then squeezes the IV bag to awaken Hamilton. Hamilton abruptly awakens to see Lex.

HAMILTON:

Alex? What? What’s going on?

LEX:

I’m here to ask about your missing vehicle.

HAMILTON:

What? My car was stolen?

LEX:

Yes. It was stolen by a man with long, silver, flowing hair. Do you know of him?

HAMILTON:

 No.

LEX:

I don’t like being lied to.

Hamilton reaches for the call button. Lex pushes it away.

LEX:

I won’t repeat my question.

HAMILTON:

He is the one who put me here.

LEX:

I’m sorry, but you must know more. He decided to take your vehicle. Why?

HAMILTON:

I don’t know. Because I’m handicap and parking would be easier for him.

Lex laughs.

LEX:

He would have killed you then. Why leave a witness that could identify him? I think he knew you and you him. That’s why he kept you alive.

Lex leans in.

LEX:

That man was on a mission. You’ve seen what he can do right? It’s almost envious. He was hunting. He was trying to draw someone out. That’s why he went for my family. We have a lot of power you know. I think he was trying to draw out that man. The man who saved me and left my family for dead. I need to know if the man who assaulted you said anything or asked anything.

HAMILTON:

I said nothing about your family Alex.

LEX:

 Then what did you say?

HAMILTON:

 He asked about Clark.

LEX:

Clark Kent? From class?

HAMILTON:

He asked about where I could find him. I told him about the store.

LEX:

Does Clark know this?

HAMILTON:

He does. He came by asking about it the night your family…

LEX:

Thank you. I have what I came for.

Lex then punches Hamilton in the face. Knocking him unconscious. He pushes the nurse call button. He exits the room.

JOE:

What now?

LEX:

Now we look for Clark Kent.

Scene cuts to the calm waters surrounding Antarctica. Suddenly a blue blur passes by. It is Clark. He is shown running towards land, more specifically towards the fortress.

CLARK:

I’ve run this fast before. Whoa!

Clark then jumps onto the land. He continues to run as fast as he can. Suddenly he trips and only a blue blur becoming entangled is seen. When Clark finally stops his face is planted in the ice. He looks up to see the fortress. He gets up and proceeds to walk to it. As he walks through the doors E-RAD speaks to him.

E-RAD:

How was your run Kal-El?

CLARK:

It was… jittery.

E-RAD:

We have to work on that. How fast do you think you were running?

CLARK:

I don’t know. Usually my top speed is around 120.

E-RAD:

You reached 450 miles per hour. And that’s not even your top speed.

CLARK:

How fast will I be able to run? Are we talking mach 7?

E-RAD:

You don’t actually have a top speed. Your “top speed” continues to expand. When you are at your 40’s you should be able to run around the globe in mere seconds.

CLARK:

Wow. That’s amazing.

E-RAD:

Yes but right now you still need to learn the basics. You need some work on your running but right now let us work on your strength. This way.

E-RAD begins to lead Clark through the hallways by means of a lighted floor. They end at what appears to be a bench with two crystal pillars on both sides of the bench. The pillars are connected by a handle bar for gripping. Clark looks in intrigue.

CLARK:

Is that bench press?

E-RAD:

How much can you lift?

CLARK:

I’d have to say 2, maybe 3 tons.

E-RAD:

Then we will start you at 6 tons. I’ll be your spotter. Please sit.

Clark sits down on the bench and places his hands on the handle bar.

CLARK:

Now what? Are you just going to start with…

Suddenly a tremendous weight pushes down. Clark struggles to push up but the bar is only going down.

E-RAD:

Focus Kal-El. Remember what I’ve taught you.

Clark begins to close his eyes and focus.

E-RAD:

Harness the energy inside of you. Use it.

The bar stops descending. Clark opens his eyes and slowly pushes up on the bar until his arms are completely extended. His arms shake while sweat already pours from his face.

CLARK:

Holy crap.

E-RAD:

Now do that 50 times.

CLARK:

What!? Are you kidding me!?

E-RAD:

Then we do 9 tons.

The doors to the room close as Clark begins another press.

Scene cuts to Lex and Joe outside on a side walk. Lex is in a wheelchair while Joe is pushing.

JOE:

You okay Mr. Luthor?

LEX:

No I am not okay! We can’t find Kent anywhere and now we have to go to the police station. They won’t even tell us why. Did I forget to mention the wheelchair? I am quite capable of walking on my own. God damn doctors!

JOE:

Relax Mr. Luthor. We are here.

LEX:

And of course there is no God damn ramp! You know what. I’ll do it myself. You can only rely on one person and that’s yourself.

JOE:

Let me help you.

LEX:

Just carry the wheelchair up. You can handle that right?

Lex slowly walks up as Joe follows next to him at the same speed.

LEX:

Do you need me to through a stick up there? Go!

Joe walks faster up the steps. As Joe reaches the top he opens up the wheelchair. Lex is still taking a long time to climb the steps.

JOE:

You can do it! Go for it!

Lex finally makes it to the top and sits in the wheelchair.

LEX:

Remind me to fire you.

JOE:

And if I don’t remind you?

LEX:

I’ll fire you.

Joe pushes Lex to the front desk.

LEX:

I was called here.

CLERK #1:

Name?

LEX:

Alexander Joseph Luthor.

CLERK #1:

Hello Mr. Luthor. We have some belongings that were salvaged from your house. Just wait here please.

The Clerk then reaches below the desk and pulls out a large box of belongings.

CLERK #1:

And here is the list of everything in the box.

LEX:

Is this…everything?

CLERK #1:

No Mr. Luthor. Everything else will be shipped to you. We just need your place of residence.

JOE:

He is staying with me. You should have my address on file. My name is Joe Graves.

CLERK #1:

One moment please. Yes, right here. We have your address. Thank you very much. You should get the items in 2-3 business days. Have a nice day.

Lex and Joe leave the building. When they reach the stairs they talk again.

LEX:

Just slowly push me down. And don’t think I am going to give you special treatment just because you are letting me stay at your house.

JOE:

I have a daughter so I’d understand if you don’t feel like thanking me. So what now?

They finally reach the bottom of the stairs as Lex looks at the box in his lap. He sees a green, crystalline rock.

LEX:

Now we go to ring maker.

Scene cuts to inside a bedroom. Pete is shown sleeping on it. He has some stitches on his forehead with a band aid. He slowly wakes up to the sound of someone cooking.

PETE:

Hello?

Pete gets out of bed and walks over to the kitchen and sees Lana at the stove.

PETE:

Lana. Did you bring me here?

LANA:

I’m making you some eggs. Sit down.

She puts the eggs on a plate and sets them in front of Pete on the table.

LANA:

I brought you here last night. You were sleeping like the cutest baby. It’s a good thing we live together. It makes these moments convenient. Come. Sit. Eat.

Pete sits down and begins to eat.

PETE:

You are too good to me. Where’s Clark? I need to talk to him.

LANA:

He actually left for a vacation. One week in Europe. He should be back in a few days.

PETE:

I wonder why he did something like that? Almost sounds as if he is running away from something.

LANA:

I wouldn’t think about it too much.

Lana’s eyes begin to water.

PETE:

Lana, how about we go for a walk? When I get my strength back of course.

Lana sees a tear hit the ground. She quickly wipes her tears. Pete doesn’t notice.

LANA:

Sure. The doctor said you should build up your strength anyways.

PETE:

Super.

Scene cuts back to the fortress of solitude. Clark is shown at the bench press. He is working on the last one.

CLARK:

And. 50.

Clark breathes deeply. He is exhausted.

CLARK:

How much weight was that?

E-RAD:

Roughly 23 tons.

CLARK:

How am I progressing so quickly?

E-RAD:

I expect nothing less from a descendant of the House of El.

CLARK:

Now what are you going to teach me? Breathe control?

E-RAD:

Now we work on your jumping.

CLARK:

Jumping? Are you going to teach me how to jump, like, half a mile?

E-RAD:

No, I’m going to teach you that soon you won’t need to.

Clark looks confused.

CLARK:

Wait, what?

Scene fades to outside a ring store. It is the middle of the day. Lex and Joe then enter. Lex is without a wheelchair but he still has the bandages on his head.

LEX: Hello. I’m here to pick up a ring.

CLERK #2:

Name?

LEX:

Alexander Luthor.

CLERK #2:

Ah yes. Can you wait one minute?

The clerk heads for the back room. Lex faces Joe.

LEX:

I hate it when people ask for my name. They should know what my name is. But in time my name will be known.

The ring maker then walks through the back door with the clerk. Lex then begins to smile.

RING MAKER:

Here you go Mr. Luthor.

The ring maker then hands Lex a green ring.

RING MAKER:

The material you gave me was quite… difficult.

LEX:

Sorry about that. Here’s some tip for your troubles.

Lex places a single dollar on the desk. He leaves with Joe and get in the truck. Lex places the ring on his finger. He looks at himself with the ring in the rear view mirror. Joe starts to drive.

JOE:

We sticking with the plan? Mr. Luthor?

Joe sees Lex touching his bandages. He turns his attention back to the road and doesn’t say a word. Lex looks at the rear view mirror as he begins to remove his bandages. When he is done his head is shown to be completely bald. A look of anger fills Lex’s eyes.

LEX:

Yes.

The scene then shows them stopping in front of a house.

LEX:

Let’s do this.

Pete and Lana are shown as the people inside the house. The door bell rings.

LANA:

I’ll get it!

Lana reaches out for the door when it is suddenly shoved open. Lana falls on the ground.

LEX:

Hold her! Oh Pete! Where are you!?

Pete then steps into the hallway to see Joe holding Lana against a wall and Lex standing in front of him.

LEX:

We have a discussion scheduled in about… 5 seconds.

Pete then runs at Lex.

LEX:

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Lex then punches Pete in the face with his ring hand. Pete falls on the ground. Joe closes the door.

LANA:

Pete!

LEX:

Silence her. But don’t hurt her.

Joe places his hand over her mouth while Lex crouches over Pete’s body.

LEX:

I’m sorry about that but you did provoke me. I heard about your injury in the hospital. Hopefully I didn’t open any wounds.

PETE:

What’s going on? What do you want Alex?

LEX:

I’m looking for my good friend Clark. Do you know where he might be hiding?

PETE:

He’s in Europe.

LEX:

He can’t afford a trip to Europe.

PETE:

He used his parent’s life assurance I’m guessing.

LEX:

What? Are you saying his parents are dead?

PETE:

Didn’t you know? His parents were poisoned. By a man with silver hair.

LEX:

Tell me about the man with the silver hair! Now!

PETE:

I can tell you that he wasn’t after Clark.

LEX:

Who?! Who was his target?!

PETE:

The guy in the papers. The Smallville Kid.

Lex stands up. He looks to Joe.

LEX:

Joe! Let go of her. We must go now. I’m sorry for the inconvenience and for my dramatics. Don’t call the authorities. I’d win the case.

Lex and Joe then leave. Lex turns around right outside the door.

LEX:

And get a better lock. You can never be too cautious.

Lex and Joe then get in the truck.

JOE:

What should we do now? Go to Europe?

LEX:

No you moron. We wait.

JOE:

For what?

Lex pulls out a piece of paper. It is the list of belongings from the police department that he is expecting in a few days. He looks at one of the items on the list. Large container.

LEX:

We wait. For supplies.

Scene changes to outside the fortress. Clark can’t tell if it’s day or night. His eyes are closed as he focuses.

CLARK:

Just remember what he told you. Channel your energy in your legs like the running training. Then also channel your energy through your arms like the bench press training. Release energy on contact with ground followed by continuous release through feet. Sounds simple enough.

Clark breathes deeply while loosening his body.

CLARK:

You can do this, you can do this.

Clark then begins to focus more. He raises his arms into the air while bending his knees. He slams his fists in the ground while also extending his legs quickly. An explosion erupts from where he was standing. He has vanished. Camera pans up to see a figure, Clark, flying through the air in zigzags with a contrail behind him.

CLARK:

Wooooohooooo!

Clark then turns around and flies towards the fortress. As he gets closer he changes his posture from a dive to a belly flop. The air pushing on his torso slowing him down. He stops at the entrance.

CLARK:

That was… awesome!

E-RAD:

Please come inside Kal-El. We must begin the last stages of your training.

Clark enters the fortress.

CLARK:

You going to teach me to shoot fire out of my eyes?

E-RAD:

Sit in the chair please.

A crystal chair begins to emerge from the ground.

CLARK:

What are we going to do now?

Clark sits in the chair. He lays his head back.

E-RAD:

Begin uplink.

A sudden sharp pain surges through Clark’s body. The pain suddenly stops.

CLARK:

What the hell just happened?!

E-RAD:

I have just inserted a small crystal in the back of your neck where the spinal cord meets the brain. I have just established a network between us. I will stay with you and advise you when needed. I have also uplinked with your goggles via antenna. For visual aid.

CLARK:

That was the final stage of my training?

E-RAD:

No, it wasn’t. Lay your head back down. Now we begin.

CLARK:

Beginning what? What are we going to do?

E-RAD:

I am going to upload Kryptonian knowledge.

CLARK:

How much Kryptonian knowledge?

A small laser then connects with the small crystal in the back of his neck.

E-RAD:

All of it.

Scene shifts to the cemetery in Smallville. Toyman is sitting at a bench. He watches from a distance as some men are digging a grave. He sees Pete and Lana walking together towards him. Pete’s face is a little battered up while Lana is holding him.

TOYMAN:

Good afternoon.

Pete and Lana smile at him.

TOYMAN:

You don’t remember me do you?

Pete and Lana turn around.

LANA:

Excuse me?

TOYMAN:

I’m sorry ma’am. I was referring to your friend there.

PETE:

No, I don’t remember.

TOYMAN:

I am the one who drove you to the hospital. You were unconscious so I don’t expect you to remember that well.

PETE:

Well fancy meeting you here. I owe you a great deal.

TOYMAN:

You have no idea of what you have already given me.

PETE:

What?

LANA:

I thought Clark drove him to the hospital?

TOYMAN:

I drove by and decided to help.

PETE:

What’s your name by the way?

TOYMAN:

Hiro Okamura. I am here on vacation. I have always loved the country.

LANA:

That is strange. I thought Clark drove him to the hospital because you two were together.

TOYMAN:

Well, I just dropped them at the hospital. I think they wouldn’t let him through since he wasn’t family. I don’t know for sure. I wouldn’t trouble your mind with it.

PETE:

Why are you here anyways? It’s a cemetery. You can’t enjoy your free time in a cemetery.

TOYMAN:

I could ask the same of you. I’m here because I am waiting for someone. But it doesn’t concern you. So don’t worry about it.

PETE:

Lana? I wanted to do this in front of someone. As a witness.

TOYMAN:

Start crying.

Pete then kneels down. He pulls a small ring box from his pocket. The same one that has been shown before. Lana tries to look as shocked as she can.

PETE:

I just wanted to show you where we will end our lives together. Lana Lang, will you marry me?

TOYMAN:

Just breathe.

LANA:

Yes. Yes I’ll marry you.

Scene fades out and then fades into the inside of a bathroom. Lex is shown staring into the mirror. The water is on. He looks at the top his head. Some hair is growing back on his. He looks to the left and sees Joe sleeping on the bed. He turns back to the mirror. He then looks down at the water accumulating. He takes a handful and splashes it on his face. He looks again at his growing head of hair. He picks up clippers and begins to shave off all the hair.

MERCY:

Why are you doing that?

Lex looks to his left and sees a little 8 year old girl.

LEX:

You must be Joe’s daughter.

MERCY:

Why are you doing that?

LEX:

Oh this.

He finishes clipping the rest of the hair.

LEX:

Just a reminder. Of my family.

MERCY:

Where is your family? Did they go away?

LEX:

Yes, they went away.

MERCY:

Can I touch your head?

LEX:

I don’t like to be touched.

Mercy looks sad.

LEX:

Okay, but only for a few seconds.

Scene changes back to the fortress. Clark is shown to still be in the chair. His eyes suddenly open. He takes a deep breath. He lifts his head. He then stands up and looks at the crystal ground.

CLARK:

Was it all true? All of it?

E-RAD:

Yes.

CLARK:

So, I suppose you are going to teleport me back to Smallville now.

E-RAD:

Negative.

CLARK:

What? You mean I’m stuck here?

E-RAD:

No. Just fly back.

CLARK:

All the way back!?

E-RAD:

If you stay high it should only take a few hours.

CLARK:

I guess there is no point complaining. I just have to deal with it. Can you please open the door?

The doors don’t open.

CLARK:

I said can you please open the door?

E-RAD:

Aren’t you forgetting something?

CLARK:

No.

E-RAD:

You are currently only wearing pants. I took the responsibility to take your clothes.

CLARK:

Where are they?

Suddenly a rectangular crystal begins to arise from the ground. When it stops rising it then opens up. On the left in a Kryptonian suit. A red, short sleeved coat. Red boots. Red, fingerless gloves. A red belt. His blue goggles. Blue pants. And a blue shirt with the same symbol that was shown on the crystal. Clark reaches out and touches it.

E-RAD:

The house of El symbol. Wear it in pride.

Clark then looks to the right of the Kryptonian suit. It is the suit and tie he wore to his parent’s tombstone. With it are his glasses as well as his father’s badge. Clark’s hand moves from the symbol on the Kryptonian suit to the badge on the suit.

CLARK:

They’ve given me too much. I owe them.

E-RAD:

They did what they were meant to do. You owe them the same thing you owe this planet.

CLARK:

And what is that?

E-RAD:

Everything you can give.

Clark looks in between the two suits and sees the wooden box that the Kryptonian suit was held in. The doors behind Clark then proceed to open. A blur then passes in front of the clothing and out the door. Both suits and the wooden box have been taken by Clark. A small, red, blue object is shown in the sky flying towards Smallville. A contrail follows.

Scene fades back to the cemetery in Smallville. Toyman is shown to be still sitting at the bench staring at the same grave. Now it is finished though. The dirt is new and the tombstone reads John Doe. He hears a noise and sees someone park a car. He sees Lex and Joe step out and walk towards the grave.

TOYMAN:

Why is it that only people from the future come to cemeteries alone? Does everyone pair up here?

Lex and Joe stop before the grave. Lex spits on the tombstone. They stand there for a while. They then begin to leave. They look over at Toyman. And he at them.

TOYMAN:

Maybe I do stand out.

As Lex and Joe reach the gate everyone feels a small tremor.

JOE:

What was that?

LEX:

Just a small tremor. Nothing to worry about. We have to head back. They should be dropping off the stuff soon.

Another one hits. This time bigger. Toyman then stands up and begins stretching.

JOE:

What is he doing?

LEX:

He’s Japanese. They have weird habits.

Another tremor hits. This time causing Lex to fall on the ground. Toyman takes off his shirt. Leaving on only his black shorts. The tombstone reading John Doe cracks where Lex spit on it.

JOE:

Mr. Luthor?

LEX:

I’m fine.

Lex stands up as another tremor hits this time Lex holds his balance. This time the new dirt on the grave rises and then falls back down. Toyman doing a sumo wrestler stance.

JOE:

What the hell is going on?

A hand emerges from the dirt. It is a large gray hand. Bones protruding from the knuckles.

JOE:

Oh my God. He’s…

LEX:

Rising from the grave. I hoped this wouldn’t happen.

JOE:

What!?

LEX:

We have to go home and get the container.

Another hand emerges from the grave. It appears that he is trying to climb out.

JOE:

But they aren’t there yet.

LEX:

Patience is a virtue. Now go!

Doomsday head emerges from the ground. His eyes are red and his teeth have become almost shark like. He now has a bald spot on his head but the silver hair is still long. Lex and Joe drive off as Doomsday notices Toyman. Doomsday yells out in anger causing every nearby glass to shatter including the windows of Joe’s truck. Doomsday lifts himself out of the ground. Lex watches from the car as the Doomsday stands up with only torn pants on. Toyman stands and waits. Doomsday, running at astounding speeds, hooks Toyman with a lariat smashing him through a tree, a metal fence, and into a building. In the rubble Doomsday stands as he looks at his defeated enemy. Toyman now smashed in two. He stares at the lower half of his body as Doomsday walks up and places his foot on Toyman’s head, crushing it. Doomsday steps out of the building. He walks towards the main road. A car is about to hit him but he pushes it aside. He then runs down the street. A cop car crosses in front of Doomsday at an intersection. He hits the front half of the car causing it to break in half. A police officer comes out of the wrecked vehicle. He reaches for the radio.

OFFICER #1:

There is an object heading down Main Street. Request backup. It is a gray, truck? Maybe a tank? I can’t make it out. But it’s moving fast. Approach with caution.

Doomsday is still running. He is seen pushing anyone or anything out of his way killing them instantly. Ahead of him is a blockade of police officers. Many of them are aiming either a shotgun or a rifle. Chief Officer Parker is at the rear with a handgun.

PARKER:

That is no tank. And it sure as hell isn’t a truck. Aim to kill!

Scene shift to outside the cemetery. Pete and Lana are staring at the destroyed store from within the car. People are screaming as they run by.

LANA:

What the hell is going on?

PETE:

Let’s drive down to find out.

LANA:

Are you kidding me?!

PETE:

Where is your sense of adventure?

LANA:

My common sense locked it away. What happened to your car anyways?

PETE:

Police impounded it. Can you believe it? Can you at least go down there for me?

LANA:

Okay. For you.

The opposite side of the road is packed with traffic. They continue to drive forward while people are running past screaming.

Scene cuts back to the blockade which is now virtually nonexistent. Several vehicles are flipped over while three are seen poking out of stores and walls. Only 2 police officers remain including Chief Officer Parker. Another one is shown in Doomsday’s grasp.

OFFICER #2:

Please don’t ki…

Doomsday snaps his neck. He then bites his head off and spits it out at the remaining officer. Parker is shaking as he holds up his gun. Fear gripping at him.

PARKER:

I’ll do it. I swear to God.

Lana and Pete stop behind Doomsday. He turns his head around. They stare in shock and awe. not being able to say a word.

PARKER:

What are you doing?! Get out! Get out of here!

Parker begins to shoot at Doomsday. He picks up a nearby cop car and tries to slam it on Parker, but he dodges it by rolling to the left.

PARKER:

Are you deaf!? Get out!

Pete and Lana are still in awe. Parker tries to fire another round but is out of ammo. Doomsday walks slowly to him. Parker throws his gun but Doomsday doesn’t even flinch. He then falls down backwards.

PARKER:

Kill me you son of a b***h!

Doomsday raises his hand prepared to strike. Suddenly a noise is heard. A sonic boom. Suddenly a blur of blue and red flies over Lana’s car causing the roof to fly off. All the store windows shatter. The blur hits Doomsday so fast and so hard that Doomsday is shown flying off in the distance as a small spec. A figure standing where Doomsday once stood. Only greased hair and a red short sleeved coat is seen from behind. The figure helps Parker up.

CLARK:

I want you to get everyone as far as they can in that direction. Get the rest of your men out as well. I’ll confront the creature.

He turns around. He is wearing blue racing goggles. A wooden box is seen in his right hand. He walks over to Pete. He hands him the small wooden box. It is Clark.

CLARK:

Do you mind holding this?

Pete nods in sheer astonishment.

CLARK:

Don’t open it. Or I’ll come back for you.

Clark then flies after Doomsday. The earth below where he stood has folded into a crescent moon shape.

Scene cuts to Lex, Joe, and Mercy in the house. Lex is drinking some form of alcohol. He is amazingly calm. Joe is holding Mercy close to him. Only screaming can be heard outside as people are still running by.

LEX:

They should be here soon.

They see a van crash into the fire hydrant outside. A man gets out of the van and runs away like everyone else.

LEX:

Well that was stupid. What a perfectly good van. Let’s go get the stuff then.

MERCY:

Don’t leave me daddy.

JOE:

Lex?

LEX:

Take her along. It’s only right in front. No danger.

A car is seen crashing into a home across the street.

JOE:

Let’s go outside hun. No complaining now.

Scene cuts to Doomsday falling within the Kent family barn. His face has a punch imprint where Clark punched him. He is dead with a blank expression on his face. The mark bumps itself out. His expression changes from empty to rage. He stands up. He hears the same noise from before. He prepares for it. Clark flies in as a blur with another punch but Doomsday catches it with a single hand. He pulls back his arm to punch but Clark kicks him in the chest before he can punch him. The shockwave from the kick causes the wooden barn to crack and splinter even though Doomsday only steps back a few steps. A POV from the goggles show Doomsday highlighted while shown at the bottom are the words analyzing. Clark then picks up a nearby tractor. He hurls the tractor at Doomsday only for him to catch it. Clark suddenly erupts through the tractor and tackles Doomsday through the barn wall and into the house.

Scene shifts to Lex, Joe and Mercy inside of a truck heading for the Kent farm. On Lex’s lap is the container of liquid nitrogen.

LEX:

Why are the police so moronic? What kind of police officer screams “Don’t go to the Kent farm! That’s where it is!”

JOE:

Please don’t speak down on the police in front of my daughter.

LEX:

It’s better she hears it now instead of when they arrest her. We are almost there.

The Kent farm is shown in the distance. Scene cuts back to the farm. All is quiet when suddenly Clark is thrown out of the house through a wall. On the ground he stares at the piece of bone in his hand. He turns his head to see Doomsday at the hole he just made in the wall. He looks down at his hand and sees that one of his bone claws has been torn off. Slowly though a new one forms in its place. Doomsday looks back up at Clark and jumps down onto the ground.

CLARK:

The only thing that can penetrate that hide is itself, theoretically.

A POV from the goggles show many points being targeted on Doomsday’s body as Doomsday walks closer to him. Clark stands up with the bone claw in hand.

CLARK:

You may be quick, but I can still out maneuver you.

Clark bursts towards Doomsday in a blue and red blur passing by him and appearing behind him. He is holding out the bone claw forward. He drops it to the ground the same time Doomsday falls to his knees. Doomsday’s throat as well as his tendons have been cut causing him to bleed heavily. Clark turns around and walks towards Doomsday.

CLARK:

I don’t have much time but I should be able to bury you again. This time you’ll be too deep to dig yourself out.

A bright light turns on from the headlights of a truck. Clark hears a door open then close followed by footsteps.

CLARK:

Sir. You need to head for safety. People are gathering at the other side of town. Please hurry.

Clark finally makes out the person as Lex.

CLARK:

Lex?

Lex punches Clark in the face with his ring hand.

LEX:

Thanks for getting rid of that little inconvenience over there. You are probably wondering why your nose is bleeding right now. You see I noticed that my rock weakens you. I decided to make a fraction of it into a ring. A bullet would have been too easy to trace.

Doomsday is shown behind Clark standing up. Clark hears it, but Lex is too focused. Clark is too exhausted from the fight and weakened as well by the kryptonite ring.

LEX:

Now it’s time for you to die.

Lex removes the lid to the container of liquid nitrogen.

CLARK:

Wait.

JOE:

Lex!

Lex looks up and sees Doomsday standing. His face is filled with horror. Suddenly a car hits Doomsday, but he just brushes it off causing the car to topple over. Doomsday turns in anger at the driver. Hamilton is shown crawling out of it. It was Hamilton’s car.

HAMILTON:

Damn. I hoped you wouldn’t be this powerful yet. I hoped wrong I guess.

Doomsday then walks towards Hamilton. Clark seizing the opportunity grabs the container from Lex and throws it at Doomsday. Doomsday turns around and slashes the container causing the liquid nitrogen to cover his entire body. Doomsday gives off a final roar as he freezes in place. The scene fades out as Doomsday’s roar is heard.

DOOMSDAY:

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!

Scene fades in. Pete is sitting at the TV reading the paper. Lana is in the kitchen cooking. The headline reads “The Smallville Kid Strikes Again!” No picture is shown, yet there is a sketching. Below that is another article about Lex Luthor.

PETE:

I don’t believe it.

LANA:

What is it?

PETE:

Lex gave away his inheritance and sold the company.

LANA:

What!?

PETE:

It says here that he is leaving Smallville and going to travel the world to excel in his studies.

LANA:

I don’t believe it.

PETE:

Copy cat. I’m happy though. He dogged me in the face.

LANA:

Show some compassion. He’s alone. Now get ready. I just finished cooking dinner for when we come back.

PETE:

Back from where?

LANA:

We are meeting Clark, remember? He wanted to talk to us about something.

PETE:

I hope he shows us some pictures from Europe. I feel bad that he missed the Smallville Kid though. It was a once in a lifetime moment.

LANA:

Clark usually misses out on once in a lifetime opportunities.

PETE:

I’m ready. Let’s go.

Scene cuts to Lex inside of Joe’s house. He is shown packing a suitcase. Joe walks in from the front door. He is shown carrying a bag.

LEX:

It won’t end here. That…inferior being may have beaten me, but I will get my justice for my family.

JOE:

Aren’t you pretty close to the line between justice and revenge?

LEX:

There is no line. The line was erased the moment my family died. And he will pay. If I stop him no more people will be hurt. More people will go after him and more families will be shattered. Especially with his recent media explosion. I will not die before he is gone. But first I must prove that I can stand on top. I will rebuild my family’s company, but with only these two hands and the will of my mind. Did you get what I asked?

JOE:

Yes sir.

Joe drops the bag on the bed.

JOE:

But how…?

LEX:

I saw it happen while we were leaving the cemetery.

Lex reaches for the bag and zips it open. Inside is the remains of Toyman.

JOE:

What do you plan on doing with it?

LEX:

I plan on making the next industrial revolution. With this technology I will save millions. But more importantly I will find a way to kill the Smallville Kid.

Lex looks at the ring on his finger. He zips up the bag and closes the suitcase.

LEX:

It’s a good thing I bought a private jet or else getting this thing by security would have been troublesome.

JOE:

I also brought you the paper. You’re in it.

Lex grabs it.

LEX:

I’m not the main story. I don’t care.

Lex stares at a drawing of the Smallville Kid. He looks at the goggles on his face. He remembers the goggles he and Clark made.

LEX:

I haven’t seen him since he started showing up. Could it be? A humble farm boy?

JOE:

Something wrong Mr. Luthor?

LEX:

Please, call me Lex. My friends used to call me Lex.

As they leave they close the door and the scene ends.

Scene opens with Clark, Lana, and Pete at a restaurant eating lunch.

CLARK:

Congratulations! I can’t believe you are getting married. Where did you propose?

PETE:

A cemetery.

CLARK:

A cemetery?

LANA:

Oh you should have seen it. He proposed in front of a complete stranger.

PETE:

A very peculiar stranger at that. He was an Asian man with a tropic shirt, unbuttoned, and black shorts. He had a glossy look. Just classic.

CLARK:

Really? That’s odd. Where did he go?

PETE:

He said he was on vacation so I guess he left when that creature surfaced. I doesn’t matter.

LANA:

It was so cute though. So what did you want to see us about?

CLARK:

I wanted to tell you both that I’m leaving Smallville.

PETE:

What?

LANA:

Why?

CLARK:

I was accepted to Metropolis University. I am planning on transferring and finishing my major there. Maybe get a job and live there indefinitely.

PETE:

You are just saying that because the store and farm are destroyed.

Lana steps on Pete’s foot.

PETE:

Ouch! What was that for?

CLARK:

Relax Lana. They are in a more peaceful place. I hope you two enjoy your life here together. I am called to bigger and better things.

Clark stands up.

CLARK:

Thank you for the meal and once again congratulations.

Clark turns around and proceeds to leave.

PETE:

Clark!

CLARK:

Pete!

Clark doesn’t turn around.

LANA:

What are you majoring in?

Clark turns his head as he opens the door. Almost exactly when he appeared in costume for the first time.

CLARK:

Journalism. If you ever come to Metropolis look me up.

The door closes yet they still watch him leave through the windows. They look  at each other in sadness. Scene fads out.

Scene opens with a tall skyscraper. It is the Daily Planet. A man is seen getting out of a taxi. his face out off view. Within the building we are following that man down a hallway, yet we only see up to his knee. Many people rush by him in a worried fashion. He walks through an open door and stops at a desk. A woman is sitting there with a name on the desk reading Lois Lane, but her face isn’t shown.

LOIS:

Welcome to the Daily Planet. What’s your business?

CLARK:

I’m here to turn in a form for an internship.

She holds out her hand. He hands her the paper.

CLARK:

Thank you.

LOIS:

I hate my job. You know you could have mailed it Mr.…

CLARK:

My name is on the form, with my number.

LOIS:

I’m not interested Mr.…

She looks on the form for the name.

LOIS:

Mr. Kent.

CLARK:

Please, call me Clark. My friends call me Clark.

Scene ends. The credits roll.

THE END
