"Prone to emotional outbursts, she is."

I.

“He won’t write about that time you made wishes on his freckles and on his pimples and he won’t write about the place that nearly everyone in your town recalled as the place they fell in love for the first time. He won’t even remember what it looked like. How you were spitting blood and he was so drunk he was shaking like a four-leaf cover in a hurricane. And how you said he had the prettiest ribs you’d ever seen. Not to mention days in April that were your favorite with foul smelling coffee and big belly laughs. Along with first kiss anniversaries, losing your keys so you had to crawl into his bed for the first time. And how you said every time felt like the first time. Prone to forgetting, he is.”

II.

“Prone to emotional outbursts, she is. You thinking it was Tuesday when it was really  Wednesday, so that meant it was Thursday tomorrow, she cried for three hours straight, or maybe it was four, you are not sure anymore. And how you broke your toe when the two of were rough-housing: she kissed your foot for three whole episodes of The Nanny. She got dizzy and had a panic attack when your dog ate a flower she had planted in ceramic bowl. And how you just picked up Love in a Cold Climate the book she was reading because you wanted to read the God damned back and she got all misty-eyed, like you had slapped her across the face. Prone to emotional outbursts, she is.”
