Pretend This Is All A Dream

Pretend This Is All A Dream

A Poem by Last Lying Look

Pretend This Is All A Dream

"I'm going to pretend this is all a dream"
she said so sweetly
She told me how she was going to pretendsomething had happened
and she was asleep
in a hospital bed
And that none of the bad things really happened
That all the people who used to care
were all standing around her
Waiting for her to wake up
And sooner or later she would
And everything would be the way it used to be

"But if you told me then how will it work?" I asked
"Shhh." she said putting a finger up to my lips
", you just need to pretend you dreamt up this conversation"
I smiled. So did she.
But months have past
and neither of us are smiling.
Because she's lost herself.
Her spirit has faded away

and she never did wake up
