Fidelity's Duty to her Heart

Fidelity's Duty to her Heart

A Chapter by E. Sanchez
"

She stayed by Loki's heart, because it was what her heart told her to do.

"
Was it love? As she kneeled there, arms outstretched in front of her, hearing the poison drop unto her bowl…..she wondered.

She was his, nothing could change that, but why did she decide to stay by his side. What made her give up her life for him? Did she love him? Was it duty?

Fidelity that is what she was called.
The others did not understand why she stayed there, why she stayed with him.

He, who with soft words and shining eyes, tricked all those that interacted with him.
Many asked her how she was tricked, because that is the only way she could have ever been tied to such a man. No one in their right mind would stay with him, but she did. She accepted him, and stayed with him through it all.

She saw him as he fleeted off to lay with another. She was there for him when he gave birth to his own child. There was love in his eyes when he talked and visited his children.
No matter what the others said, it was obvious that he cared for them; they were his children, and she? Well, she cared for him enough, that it hurt to know she was not enough.
Sometimes, inside, her heart felt broken and at times, she wanted to leave him…..to let go forever, to join the other maidens.
She couldn’t….for some reason he would step over to her, and smile, not his usual maniac grin, but a soft smile.  Her heart didn’t heal magically, no, not even with his power could he heal her heart, but for that moment she felt soothed.

Now, she kneeled by his side, feeling her eyes tear every time she heard his screams of pain when she had to pour the poison out.
Did she love him?

She sighed and looked down, to where he laid, tired from all his struggling. His red hair was sprawled over the roots, still its fiery red. He tilted his head up and smiled at her, eyes shining still just for her.

“I’ll have to go pour the poison out soon.” She whispered, already dreading her task. However, he just nodded and kept on smiling.
“The thought that you will come back makes the pain bearable.” He whispered to her, causing her heart to speed up.
She was still unsure if she loved him or not, but it is those moments, when he said things like that, she remembered why she accepted his proposal and stayed by his side. He treated her tenderly and with respect, he always had no matter the circumstance. Even as he writhed with pain, he would smile at her, eyes always shining. He may be a monster to others, but with her, he was a husband and she would remain fateful to him.

Maybe, she was tricked, maybe she wasn’t, but in the end, Fidelity is what they called her.
