No one bared him any attention.
He was treated like any other steed, and his birth parents were easily forgotten.
Not even his eight legs made people realize that he was not a normal horse.
However, she took care of him when his mother was not around.
She came to him, with treats and gentle words.
In her eyes, he was a rightful prince and even though she could not understand him, she still allowed him to speak.
She would talk to him and tell him stories of his mother.
She would say how Loki missed him so much, and that he promised to bring him something when he returned.
She was always right. Loki did bring him something every time he came back from a trip.
Sometimes, she would be sad and his mother would be angry.
Sometimes, his mother would take on his mare form again and ride with him through the hills at night.
He wondered if All Father Odin knew of his break outs as his mother began calling them.
Figured it didn’t matter as long as he came back to the stables.
Except for one time, that Sleipnir was not well and he was still being forced to ride out.
Sigyn had been there to stop them.
He recalls the sound of her name reverberating through Asgard and he was sure that for the first time, everyone in Asgard realized that Sigyn existed.
SIgyn remained with him and cured him of his illness.
When Loki came back, Sleipnir was ready to run about again.
However, he witnessed his mother scolding Sigyn and for the first time, Sleipnir talked back to his mother.
Sigyn had protected him and he returned the favor.
She was part of his family now, she had proven worthy of it.
He had to make his mother realize that.
Of course, all good things come to an end.
They were both gone, his mother and Sigyn.
He recalls the screams, the pain.
Many don’t wish for Ragnarok, but Sleipnir is not one of them.
He can’t wait for Ragnarok.
He wants to see his mother again, and run with her.
He wants Sigyn to gently brush his mane and treat him to apples.
He wants to run free and not be treated like any other horse.
Yes…..he waits patiently for the end of the old and the start of something better.
