Untitled 3

A Poem by Alice

Tears in my eyes as I tell you,

My feet have grown so far from me.

To think: At birth I was so small.

Despite my size,

Nothing ever seemed too far away.

Now I have to reach to my toes,

Stretch.

I imagine rings,

Like those that grow in trees,

Growing in my body.

From my navel out,

They grow.

Every year, every moment,

I grow.

Often times I long for the old days.

I long to be as small physically,

As I feel.

When I was young,

Nothing seemed too far away,

But now I see the hugeness.

Now I see I am small.

I've been reading through a few of your poems just now, and this one is my favourite so far! I just love how it has that sense of "everyone in the world is small" and the idea of reversal with everything being so close by as a child. You're small but feel big, then you're bigger and end up feeling small. Sorry if that doesn't make sense. I know what I'm trying to say in my head but it feels like I'm babbling! Long story short: I love it!

Oh Alice. I love this, and I love you.

I love the imagery with the rings of a tree in you. Favorite line: "To think: At birth I was so small." It really caught my attention for some reason. Beautiful. Keep writing. I miss you.
