lamenting under solemn skies
on days when this restless spirit
ran free and wild across the plains
many miles of this crusted earth
I did roam without remorse
and my soul sang proudly of youth
tasting the air of fading life
I cast my wishes into skybound keeping
that these open fields never change
from shadowed silence on cirrus pastures
I will survey the youth yet to bear
as they discover value of freedom
now as I rest on bended knee
upon this well trodden grassland carpet
I thank thee for a life devoid of burden
promising to keep safe in my memories
all the joy a heart can hold
yet before my spirit surrenders to the will of angels
in my dreams I will ride just one last time
like wildfire with the summer winds.
