People are fundamentally the same
It matters not race or creed
We have all spent many nights
Crying ourselves to sleep
A rudimentary response
To relationships gone wrong
We all have our hidden demons
And have erected walls around us
Trying to lock them out of our psyche
We've secured segments of our souls
In padded cells to protect us from being harmed
Yet this effort inevitably often fails
Leaving us vulnerable and doubting
We do our best to nurture our children
We love, learn and teach
We work, socialise and play
Only permitting a select few
To know who we really are
Or at least the person
That we want them to see
But do we truly even know ourselves?
Take a deeper look into yourself
Deep within the unknown, unseen
Chasms of your mortal soul
Journey through your fears,
Your misgivings and frailties
And all the things that make you smile
Cross the endless miles
Of desolate wastelands
Made up of all your broken dreams
Traverse the many rivers of tears
Drive down that long forgotten memory lane
Toss a penny into the wishing well
Sending ripples through your reflection
That shimmered in a pool of love
Once you have completed this quest
Then you will know the answers
Your true self will no longer be
Unknown, hidden, from even yourself
And each day when you measure
The difference between who you are
And who you really want to be
You will also know
That the distance in between
Is growing ever shorter.
I have a tendency to write mostly "free verse", I have written some lyrics and they will appear on the site gradually.
I don't like being defined by style anyway, I just try to convey a message or at .. more..
