The Poet Inside

The Poet Inside

A Poem by S. A. Venus

Never deny
The poet inside
Thoughts that awake you
In the middle of the night
Listen to all of these subconscious
And whimsical tales
Get up, scrawl them down
Then scramble back to bed
Before that inspired moment
Fades to become an obscure memory

You may be sitting
Near a babbling brook
Or about to wed
Your glowing bride
When out of the blue
Something rekindles the passions
Of a poets latent fire

Always carry a notebook and pen
For you may not hear
In quite a long while
That benevolent voice
Or angelic spirit
That stirs your emotions
And guides your insight

You may be on a cigarette break
Or simply gazing at the splendour
Of the night sky
Secrets and visions
Or voices crying out
Each in their own way
Extract or express
Feelings we hold deep within

You just never know
When your next masterpiece will unfold
Inspirational moments strike like lightning
Anywhere, anytime
Thus the moral is clear
To this craft we undertake
We must never deny
The poet inside

About
I have a tendency to write mostly "free verse", I have written some lyrics and they will appear on the site gradually. I don't like being defined by style anyway, I just try to convey a message or at .. more..
