A Cup of VinegarA Poem by Erica RossI've been drinking from the same cup
since I was like two It has always been bitter as vinegar, but back then it tasted sweet as apple juice When you're young All the lies are your truth They said the rumbling in your tummy were just butterflies, but I always needed proof No wonder why I'm so desensitized I'm 20 now, no wonder, the bitter vinegar has me rotten inside Though, I prefer it. I never needed a chase Just fill me up with Jack Daniels and watch the bitter vinegar change my face I think the juice, no, the poison has pierced my heart The moths inside my stomach decided to tear it apart Now, I can see the truth Everything was a lie Even juice can taste like vinegar When you've been drinking from the same cup since you were like two. © 2015 Erica Ross |
