Winds of Change

This is my first attempt at writing a book I've been mulling over for quite some time. I daresay there are certainly grammatical errors, as I wrote this first chapter over the past two days. I really am looking for thoughts on whether I built an image up well, and if I caught your attention. Can you see the scene unfold? Do you feel swept up in the story? Or is it a two-dimensional drawl? Be gentle :)
