I Was Told Pain FadesA Poem by erlance
I was told pain fades, but my scars won’t leave me.
Nothing hurts more than the ashes in the sky, making me whole. I was told hope dies last, but the flames outlived it. Nothing feeds the fire better than a shattered soul. I was told to burn all I have, but there is nothing left. Nothing burns fiercer than my hate, out of control. I tell you to run away, but you won’t be able to. Nothing will keep you from escaping my inferno. If you have nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire. If there is nowhere left to turn, you have to give in to desire. If there is nothing left to learn, you have to raise your standards higher. And make your home a pyre.
I was told life lasts, but my lungs stopped breathing. Nothing hurts more than the truth in the embers, making me choke. I was told hate fails, but my heart can’t beat it. Nothing keeps my veins alive like a love that’s broke. I was told time heals all wounds, but I keep on bleeding. Nothing suffocates me more than the lasting smoke. I tell you to stay away, but you just can’t leave me. Nothing will keep me from landing my final stroke.
If you have nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire. If there is nowhere left to turn, you have to give in to desire. If there is nothing left to learn, you have to raise your standards higher. And make your home a pyre.
