Irene: The Day AfterA Poem by Erin LeeTHIS is living! For the one I call soulmate. ;-)Irene: Day After By Erin Lee His face blankets the kitchen floor Gray cheeks and eyes so tight they wrinkle at the sides Paws splayed like a gymnast; post show He eats fireworks like gummy worms I bring the tea to boil. Yesterday’s wine, circa 2009 Candles, triple A’s, flashlights sigh As I pull the blinds Granny sunbathes Staring up into the sky I wonder where I put my sunglasses. Come back, b***h! You forgot the car Wet and wild paths you tore; Soggy fields, unsettled scores I run my fingers past foggy the gore Wondering why he watches True Blood And bows before her. Jump on over there Where the air is clear And daisies kiss the sky Winking at the birds above Unafraid to fly. He bites my bottom lip When he kisses love into my sigh And I wonder should I feel it Or should I eat his tongue? I'm unafraid to dine... The ivory soap is still in front Where I showered in the rain; Give it to me good, Irene! Let it go, lose control We can form a rosy chain And hit the highway 65 Right into outer space; squeaky clean. Hopkington grass Cut like promises from dreams I can’t get rid of And a calling from another Brought in on her wings I spin and spin in morning breeze. She’s candy coated Never bloated and sure of her next move. Breaking out of here; kill the grace. Sweep me up in your eager rage (Break a promise more). His arms are lazy at his chest Too sleepy to embrace He hasn’t moved, less the sun Which covers him for sure In certain pleading whimpers “Just five minutes more!” The lights come on! and the power comes back with sunlight. He stirs. © 2011 Erin Lee |
