Boom, Boom!

Boom, Boom!

A Poem by Erin Lee
"

For Jenna, whose beauty queen spirit I will never forget. (And Jack). "It's always in the campground. And remembered in the flames..."

"

Boom, Boom!

By Erin Lee

He shot himself in the heart, not believing and

Twisting candy-covered dreams in a broth not as buttery

Five days past Halloween

Where the treats aren’t cherry sweet when they

Knock, knocked.

Back where the children didn’t wear masks with

Smiles bright enough to lite the moonless sky

Ten kisses after he promised to tell the truth

When she smelt dandelion perfume

And knew.

He loaded the gun, begging her to pull the trigger

Offering undying loyalty

Twenty minutes before his first date

With uncertain destiny

Banging hard.

She was a super model who believed

In fairy tales and white horse princes

Driving fast the steed, moments stolen,

True love and fate

Beauty, queen.

Lies, lies he tells himself as he takes another gulp

Boom, boom! Blazing in his brain

And willing it to go away, five minutes

He reaches for another one

Stealing fate.

Masks fall to the floor, bleeding scream

Garden posts laying twisted in a pile

A daisy’s all that remains

And a mark he’ll wear forever

A lifetime too late:

Shame.

This is a very sad poem about thoughts and disillusions that lead to uncertain death. You have penned this well and have shared a story.
