Tiny Towns

Tiny Towns

A Poem by Erin Lee

Tiny Towns

By Erin L George

I’ve lost entire continents and countries

Their lazy slumbers not following fast enough

Me. Into night.

I close my eyes and decide not to nod

Making choices to walk on by. Their indifference

No longer biting at my neck. In daylight.

I’ve held pebbles and seashells

Tiny grits of sand that roll within my palm

Daring me to make something of them.

I make strong fists and spring up from my beach chair

Where I’ve sat all day, contemplating sunlight

And the way it kisses my skin.

I’ve lost loves and belief in promises

Made by men who are hard. Hardened

Me. Into night.

My eyes are wide and I chose not to wink back

Taking what is mine. Their tears invisible

No longer eating at my mind. In hopes

That I’ll lose no more. My eyes are dry

And no longer afraid to stare into the bright,

Make towns out of moonlight.

Beautiful. Erin I think this is my favorite piece of yours. It's whimiscal and ethereal but yet at the same time everything said is grounded in reality. Excellent.100/100

I can relate to this piece in the sense that I’ve traveled many a small town. Overall I think you’ve done a great job.
