You can try to change a person. You can try to tell them what's best for them. But you cannot control their dreams.

Set Me on Fire

by Erin L George

Dress me up in virgin white

and I'll be that for you

nodding to your each request

my brain bobbing like a boey

out to sea.

Move me to the city life

and I'll do that for you

dreaming every night

(and not letting you know)

of meadows.

Bring me to the gate of hell

and I'll walk on heated coals

melting my daisy tattoo

pretty for the shower

(and you).

Mold my heart to beat with yours

and I'll play your silly tune

repeating your scripted melody

lip sinking Milli Vanilli

city dude.

But

I'll set fire to my virgin dress

and put it out with the sea

leaving bits of moldy ashes

and distant memories

(more for me).

I'll run away to country land

where dreams are made of grass

and sit beneath the willow trees

tight in their embrace

(they heard my dreams).

I'll pray to angels to pull me up

where I will wash my feet

and soak them in a tub

of roses and forget-me-nots

(wild).

I'll sing while I mold my clay,

my bowl is made of dirt

lip smackin' Mother Nature

winking back at stars -

(my spirit shall be free).

Try me.
