Words

A Poem by Erin Lee

Words

by Erin L George

I choke on them as they fall from your lips

so easy I'm not even sure you know their meaning -

wondering why no one's ever taught you

words

are only words.

Ironic, that I should spend my time spinning them

searching for the perfect combination

peanut butter and jelly sandwich -

chomping

on chunks.

You say you want to be there, not to miss a moment

as you close your eyes to sleep away the day

like time is an endless thing and I will wait -

for you

forever.

I let them pour from my fingers

so fast I'm not even sure I know what I'm saying -

wondering why no one's ever taught me

words

are only words.

Some people use words to abuse and destroy. Words have great power on paper or in conversation. Don't underestimate the value of words. Can make someone world wonderful and sometime leave us in distress. A powerful poem. My grandfather told me nothing good to say. Say nothing. I like the flow and strong statement in the poem. A excellent poem.

I have to agree with Coyote on this one.
Words can kill one's spirit in a sentence, sometimes
even in a word alone. Truly! Though I am one that
believes that "Actions" speak Louder!

You know, Coyote, you are right. Now that I think about it, words are very powerful. I think what I was trying to convey here is that some people use words as a way to avoid actions (which are even more telling and powerful). And that just sucks. But it also illustrates another way in which words can be powerful. Thanks for giving me something to think about.
