Betrayal & Devotion

Betrayal & Devotion

A Poem by Erin Lee
"

He told me once, "there's a thin line between love and hate." But when you're in love, it's very hard to see it. For the one my heart will always be devoted to.

"

Betrayal & Devotion

Betrayal

is in the one place the eye cannot see -

an innuendo mascara-dipped

so riveting there can only be mischieft behind it.

She eats rasberries behind the shed

where he planted roses for her.

Dragon flies are drunk on this thing -

love syndrome.

He's off, placing bets on the table.

And she waits for him, anxious.

Devotion

hides in the one place the ear cannot hear -

an inscription between heart and mind

so sacred it cannot be broken.

He catches strawberries on his tongue

plucking dandelions from the meadow.

Butterflies are high on this thing -

love syndrome

and the dance:

between

devotion

and betrayal.
