Inner Beauty (a Song)

Inner Beauty (a Song)

A Poem by Erin Lee

Inner Beauty (A song)

They say it's what's inside that counts -

that beauty comes from somewhere deep.

But if it's what's inside that counts

then what becomes of me?

I've warts on my soul I cannot burn

and icing never did the deed.

I've spots on my heart stitched so tight,

yet not the strength to bleed.

I'm bleeding something awful

someone turn the spicket off.

I'm burning something hot

baby, please turn the cold water on.

What would you say if I told you

secrets that'd make you squirm?

What would you say if you knew

I've lived them true to form?

How beautiful would I be?

They say it's what's inside that counts -

that beauty comes from somewhere deep.

But if it's what's inside that counts

then what becomes of me?

I've fat on the edges of my mind

and I'm tired of living on borrowed time.

I've bumps in my ears, don't want to hear

yet I'll ask you to listen.

I can't stop eating what's inside of me

baby, please, satisfy my plea!

I'm holding hands to my ears

music masking all my fears.

How would you feel

watching me shake my hips?

How would I taste upon your lips -

knowing how many men I've kissed?

How beautiful would I be?

They say it's what's inside that counts -

that beauty comes from somewhere deep.

But if it's what's inside that counts

then what becomes of me?
