Emerald Sea

Emerald Sea

A Poem by Erin Lee
"

About a willow tree I played under at Greeley Park in Nashua, NH as a child and still make excuses to visit (and write under) as an adult. A life long love affair.

"

Emerald Sea

Oh! Emerald Sea, please:

Shelter me!

Let me curl up under arms so long

sweet

and rest my weary limbs.

I am a little girl

playing with Barbie

Ken

You keep me safe

from heat

the sun

and sunburns?

Oh! Emerald Sea, please:

Rescue me!

I'll sleep beneath your blanket

riding the waves

of wind

you shield me from

believe

I am an adolesecent

dreaming of love

on a flannell bedsheet

brought out

just for you

for today.

Oh! Emerald Sea, please:

Speak to me!

I'll open my ears wide

and hear the kiss of father's rage

as it tickles at your leaves

and hold you

close

I am all grown up

wondering where the time went

planting flowers at your feet.

This poem left me with a feeling of completion and bittersweet emotion. You used the topic and title in a refreshing way, tying the elements of earth to the human memory and emotions quite beautifully. Creative and wonderful. Nice work!

This is a beautifully descriptive poem that uses the topic and that title perfectly from the group. I love how you start out with being young and then growing older. The flow of the poem is nicely done. Great write.
