All In

All In

A Poem by Erin Lee

All In

by Erin L George

He raises her

to places you read about

or see

in movies

the kind where you leave the theater

and say "that can''t be real."

People just don't love like that

the kind of love that hurts

nearly as much

as it heals

when you're apart

and sleeping alone.

She raises him

believing in them enough

for two

his biggest fan

the kind who goes to every show

and is the last one to leave.

People just don't worship like that

the kind of crush that never ends

where you fall in love

harder

faster

with each moment spent

together.

He folds

finally conceeding:

no, this is no ordinary love -

this love is true

the kind that make others

less fortunate

cringe and doubt.

People just can't see it

and want to take it -

"misery loves company"

so why should they love that way?

Why should they believe

in forever

when I'm living for today?

She calls

knowing she's got a pair

of royal hearts

no one can take away -

asking him,

"Babe? Is this a good hand?"

He smiles.

People don't get that lucky

the kind of luck

where you win the Powerball

twice

on a ticket you didn't even need

or buy

but found washed up on the beach.

They're all in

this love

true love

for sure.

And people? Well ...

they'll just have to be content

to deal.
