Soccer Saturday

You can't spend the amount of time I do on a soccer field and NOT write about it. ;-)

Soccer Saturday

by Erin L George

Sitting on the edge of a soccer field

I’m supposed to be coaching.

I take a moment to take it all in:

Yellow or green

Green or yellow

You decide

A decision made on birthright.

The only two colors left:

Yellow is for sissies

(but our team is made up of only girls anyway!)

“I want to be number five!”

(but that would be copying my brother)

Sigh.

The dump’s open

An old wicker shelf

Melting, unraveling "

Wide " eyed.

Huge on potential.

Blue.

Not yellow or green.

Not anything in between.

But yellow and blue make green.

So maybe that’s the way I should go?

Which is it?

“One person’s trash is another’s treasure”

I’ll stay away from him

(I am his trash)

(I am his treasure)

He says I scream too loud

Cheering them on

Aquamarine.

He’s probably right,

You know.

And I’d have been better off going with blue

(Cause that’s what I am)

But blue was already taken

From the shed

With name tags

Combination 3-4-9-2.
