Panic

Panic

A Poem by Erin Lee

Panic

by Erin L George

I am

a block of ice

your tonsil slips upon

stubborn

stuck

stagnant

for seconds split

by hours

as you choke blue snots

grasp at your neck

bow to ground

hitting back

the wall.

I am

the infinity

realized

your son is not playing

hide and seek

between clothes racks

hidden

sneak attack

I wage eternal war

against your Rolodex

as you sprint

to find the door.

I am

midnight black

Mercury Mountaineer

on an icy hill

with bad breaks

too fast

heading straight

at your car

as your children draw

pictures of sharks

in the backseat

with crimson colored

crayons.

I am

the pink slip

waiting on your desk

past due

mortgage approved

you've just secured

daunting

final

tempting you to call

back the bank

or chance the classified ads

as you choke

on frost.
