A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

offspring's purview

I used have a globe

(when I was a kid

all those states

all those countries

and rivers and mountains)

I would turn in my sleep

the spinning ball

bouncing off my dreams

of exploration

of finding some unnamed

island to call my own

but the more the globe spun

the more I realized

geography was for the adults

who had already found

those islands in their travels

and then returned to their cocktail parties

barely mentioning the occasion

as if they had merely stubbed their toes

on some beach that did not look familiar

in the alcoholic light.

How we become complacent and jaded in our growing older. To have the eye and mind of a child full of the greenness of life. Growing old and brittle content with the mundane no appreciation for the beauty once there. Now looking for a doping down a drugged haze to quell the beauty

Most people who can travel seem to find little of the wonder that a poet would see everywhere. Enjoyable write. ~Jim

Loved this poem and it's child-like musings. There are no islands left for the poet. All have been marred by those who don't value them. His dreams remain just dreams. The imagery is beautiful here.

sounds like my Ex mother-in-Law who traveled the world and talked about it, but couldn’t pronounce any of the countries…. only the jewelry she bought in each port…. a real spoof on how people travel and what they learn from it… or don’t . nicely crafted J.🌷🌷🌷
