This insightful piece reminds me that the Law of the Animal Kingdom is eat or be eaten,
and our politicos, especially very recently, are with gusto living up/down to it!
The title gripped me. The acorns fallen from the mighty oak, scattered on the ground like dead bodies. The Marshall squirrels expelling with cold teeth, gave me a horror scenario, but then my mind can run riot. The metaphor works for me. I see a political situation of tragedy.
Squirrels don't usually eat the acorns they gather right away. They store many in holes they dig in the ground. But the squirrel has a very poor memory and so he forgets where he hid them all. Through this process the squirrel is unwittingly perpetuating the very survival of the oaks, by planting its seeds and propagating its continuance as a genus or species. Metaphor is only useful when presented as an accurate observation. Therefore, observation and perspective are the key to understanding cause and effect, supply and demand etc.
The imagery in this poem is unique, the comparison of the squirrel's removal of acorns to a marshal expelling people is clever and creative.
