no other way to go

no other way to go

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

no other way to go

baby rage

grows up to be

teenage displacement

society's distant relative

Prodigal smile

never returns

the smoking gun

the bleeding signature

on a will

of permanent

expulsion

his heart dies

taking others with him.

Society’s distant relative. Not fitting in and feeling isolated. That rage inside can turn nasty. It can destroy a person, eat away at them or worse still can turn on others and destroy them. My mind drifted to high school massacres, as the worse possible outcome. Quite a deadly situation.

And I wonder how many could be avoided if spotted early enough.

Too right. Early intervention I’m sure would prevent so many tragedies and who can get their hands.. read more
This one is very pertinent to me. In a neighboring city, two cops were shot and killed by a guy who later killed himself. He was in his 40's. Baby rage recalled.

No, the prodigal smile never really does return, except as a spiteful grimace. Strong words. ~Jim

This should be on the curriculum for any school age child to show that every action, no matter how young has consequences. Maybe then they would realise that their actions do have consequences, no matter how unfair they think they are.
Once again, very nicely captured Jacob.

A very relatable poem for me, always "society's distant relative, on a will of permanent expulsion". You always have something to delight me.

Thank you my friend,

This poem seems to explore themes of disconnection and isolation, particularly in relation to societal expectations and family dynamics. The imagery is intense, painting a picture of someone struggling to cope with the weight of their surroundings. Well done, Jacob.
