the eyes of conscience

the eyes of conscience

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the eyes of conscience

a fly on the wall

lost its virginity

as it watched

the trappings of love

between two strangers

wrapped in secret

strangers approaching

familiarity

as a comfort

when loneliness

had been such a pest

in their current past

Dropping innocence and surging intimacy is a whirlwind affair with consequences to bare, even fair distance observers surely get a tempest in their tea cup or coffee mug, whichever in the moment is handy. Superb j. 👍🏻🕊🙏🏻

Most welcome j 🙏🏻🕊️
Fred’s.
Loneliness is a killer. Those two strangers approaching familiarity, probably didn’t notice the fly on the wall. They were probably only too pleased to have the warmth of some company. That fly though, sounds interesting.

AT least this fly saw two people comfort each other, unlike Emily Dickinson's fly that just buzzed w.. read more
JEC,
How long have you known this fly? They are pretty promiscuous here in Texas...

there is nothing like love-making following a period of grief. the comfort, the feeling of security, of being wanted, appreciated, having somewhere on this earth to belong. well, it's those things but also just good ol' merry-making.
the perspective of this work was very interesting. an insect in the same room, probably unnoticed by the actors. yet even this simple creature understands the significance of what is going on. animal instincts combined with a disctinctly human desire for actualization.
very smart writing.

Thank you for your very kind review,

We think the fly a pest, but what thinks the fly of our disgusting misdeeds?
Casting aside the odd plague or three, which if the rats don't get the blame, it will be the flies, I don't remember them commiting any intended genocide. At least not on our scale.
I'm with the flies on this one Jacob!

Interesting....they probably think we are worse pests than they are to us.

' a fly on the wall had been such a pest. ' In more ways than one. Flies are disgusting.
Spying on lovers in a trap. That thought made me smile. :)

The "trappings" of love suggests something less than sincerity. These two seem rather desperate, though good things could possibly result from their coupling.
