A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

moment

strangers kiss
under orange maples
then say goodbye
without exchanging names

Where are these maples at again? Never mind, the wife says I can't go. (laughing) Cool snapshot.

She's pretty smart....one instance can ruin a life.

They were great, weren't they?
Well if you were one of the strangers in the scene they were.
Ah, such happy, carefree and not so innocent days!
I can just about remember one or two of them, or perhaps I just dreamt them! 😃

Oh, I am sure they happened....

j.
A moment of passion, glancing at each other, the blood boils and a kiss ensues, yet neither wants to pursue….. i have seen this behavior in many movies….. but in your poem maybe the goodbye was not the the last goodbye…. make one think!

Wow! This reminds me from an early scene in the novel, "Their Eyes Were Watching God" A seemingly simple exchange with so much truth and power.

Never read it, but love the name of that novel.
Thank you, Amanda,

it's those relationships (i guess we can call this one a relationship) that don't get dragged down to the level of mundane, everyday chores, bills, and such, that have that romantic glow about them, because they give us the illusion of romance, and a kind of immaterial, no-strings-attached, pure love that is probably a creation of our own mind - but maybe it's an ideal we all chase when we "love."

hmmmm, could it be that the orange maples turned them off after that first kiss?? Perhaps the kiss told them everything they needed to know about each other. End of kiss, end of story. Kind of reminded me of that famous photo where the sailor passionately kissed a nurse and then they went their separate ways.

Anyway, it was the orange maples, definitely the orange maples. ;0) -Curt

I believe that this is true, like what has been said before, the truth being stranger than fiction. I’ve had an immediate connection with strangers before but haven’t had the encounters end up in kisses, close but not quite.

"Moment" says volumes, love this one, Jacob:)
MOMENTS, for most, are few and far between,
Some, I look back and savor, some I regret,
always I look forward to the NEXT.
