the shallow poet's bucket list

the shallow poet's bucket list

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the shallow poet's bucket list

i spit on meaning

want to write poems

about nothing that mean nothing

don't want beauty either

to hell with imagery

alliteration

anything that shines a light

want to write poems

about nothing that mean nothing

don't want abstract, contract

or cataracts from too much reading

or thinking or expecting then rejecting

ideas

just want to write words

and words and more words

to fill a space

not an emptiness of heart

or soul

but i want control

of syllables, put a lasso around them

keep them so simple

they are meaningless

but just fill a space

a page

a little butter on the clutter

to slide them all into a verse

to curse all of the metaphors

allegories

and meanings between the lines

i don't care if it is a strict yellow line

i don't want to cross it

with anything that has thesis

or jesus ties

just want lies

that nothing matters

and what i write

are poems

about nothing that mean nothing

then i could die happy

without a care in the world

as i spit on meaning

clutching my Thesaurus

with my cold bones.

There are an ocean of these poets out there and I have read some and their water leaves me thirsty. It is salt water in a large sea of poems but then who am I to judge art is in the eye of the beholder and there are many fish that do quite well in a salty sea. Lovely write Jacob

I'm trying to decide if I want this to be sarcastic satire or an actual ars poetica of a rebel writer.

Either way, I love the energy, the intensity, the mastery of language, and everything else about this paradoxical "meta poem."

Thank you for your kind words, Laz,
make it whatever you want it to be.

surely an anthem of surrender and none the less you write with the skill you curse, but perhaps it is a curse that you cannot evade, and so here you are saying something once again that you must say. Quite a pair of ducks is it not. Love your work - With much admiration - carl

Jacob! it is the days when you want to write something and able to write, in spite that we are unable to write, but we write just because we want to write. It turns out something beautifully. Taking an inspiration from your poem & going to write. Beautifully penned. I Enjoyed while reading.

Glad that you are looking forward it to it. Already Posted "Firefly & Flickering light".
it's a biting satire on the state of literature nowadays. society as a whole has digressed and took the artform with it. i lament our fate, but i did find a lot of giggles reading this. hope you have a good one mate.

Glad you got some smiles from this, Ern.
thanks for the read and your words,

Smiling here Jacob on this cold winter morning, these are usually the poets who like to criticise mostly well thought out and presented words with lots of spiritual and wordly thoughts.
Having said that i do worry sometimes that my rather ethereal poetry is read to be something literal when it is mostly poetic story telling with a message.
I suppose empty heads are full of nothing that means nothing ...
