There is too much control in our lives...humans and animals alike need some freedom to fine their paths that make them enjoy life....we are not soldiers and neither are they...but it is funny how they seem to be just fine following each other in a perfect row....nevertheless ....we as humans should stick together only if we wish to, not controlled by anyone....nice write J.

I appreciate your philosophy, Betty.
Thanks for your review,

A lot of times when a writer writes, it's from some little thing he or she noticed during that day. So when he gets quiet around people, he or she is writing in their heads. This reminds me of that.
Great poem, J.

Even in college when writing essays, I always did all my prewriting in my head...then just sat down and let the words come out as they may.

It's funny but the pattern ducks fly in is lost when they flutter upon the water scurrying here and there.
Just as I enjoyed the busy image of fanning ripples being percussions of hope. Starting small then gaining ground as they cover an ever growing space.
Oh but the urge to cage and control everything the way 'we' like. I feel like freedom comes at a price. Whether to give up on your dreams or follow the 'pack'. I'm probably (yet again) misunderstanding your wonderful poems, but this had me thinking of how females are required to act, dress, and be a certain way regardless of what they want. And then you end up feeling like an ugly duckling but still nowhere 'near-perfect' for the world.
Sorry for the rant, but it's calming to read you once again, Jacob.

Your poem took me to the river j. Ducks will never stay in a straight line whether the water is calm or rippled. They like their freedom. Very different behavior from geese, who will always follow the Leader. Quite different behavior patterns and human nature very much reflects what goes on in the natural world. Variety. Everyone is unique.

Even if we are forced to swim in that row...we long to break out.
thank you, Chris,

dear Jacob... Ducks are very affectionate and become very fond of their Guardians that adopt them as Pets. I had a Duck named Sweetie Heart, The feelings of my Pet Duck were extraordinary.
Is said that following the right beings takes you to the pearly gates and - having found how to love even one of them .. the gates will swing open and display their welcome sign! Your words, your poetry is an opinion born of a gentle man who knows how to teach the three guides to a life both in and out of a classroom. Guess we have to learn how to let things float neath their own mast, May yours be stout but free to move with all weathers, dear friend. Ducks in a row? Never, their characters are pilotless!
