Candidates by Candlelight

Candidates by Candlelight

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Candidates by Candlelight

let me escape

the politics of

your arms

your lips

the incumbent curve

of your smile

all for show

to be reelected

in a moon's electoral college

where minds know better

than what hearts study

during all-nighters

Yes that political smile that says thanks suckers so gullible.

The savvy lover who knows the demographics. Clever tone with a hint of sexy... "The incumbent curve of your smile" is delicious. I hope YOU smiled when you penned that one.

It sounds as though someone is campaigning emotionally and making those promises that won't be kept. I say let the mind trump the heart here and seek a better candidate.

Metaphorically speaking, of course.
thank you, John.

this is a very interesting piece that plays with election lingo and brings it into a romantic setting. the candlelight burns and waves as i read this, which is juxtaposed by the whiff of politics. it is as if the preidential candidates have intruded in the most intimate moments.
forgive me if im wrong, but i read this text as a satire on the politicization of everything. while we should be attentive to the actions of one's government, i find it weird that these debates have spilled into our daily lives. that's just my opinion, and i would love to hear what made you write this.

I appreciate your response,
Ern....thank you for your insightful interpretation.

The feeling of being out paced
by algarithmic dommantion.
Being swallowed alive by our
collective calious adaptive traits.
The having over being dark glasses.
Overwhelmed by this unbearable
lightness of being.
Sold the pop the top till you can't
stop poison followed up
with pen injuction antidotes.
Hard to reach for the cream
knowing s**t floats to the top.
Driven to rant in coment sections
the last bridge to becoming trolls.
WTF graffiti on skin dis eased cry
on the face of speechless button
pushed generation. Is it possible
aggressive primate hierarchy is
too big to fail?
Politicians swim in the waters
of wealthy hypocrisy.
Threaten them and
The ball is taken away game over.
Boot strap cutter's limousine ride
to their well stocked high tech
bunkers.
The kiss good byes and tender
words of hope...
Great human poet poetry sir,

Thank you dear teacher.

Thank you for your very kind and poetic review, Romeo.

There was a song once about the politics of dancing which at the time was for me a metaphor for the politics of moving into love from an initial acquaintance stage. Sometimes, well a lot of the time the mind and the heart don't agree, but the heart casts the vote while the mind tends to analyse, quite tardily....

I am very tire of politics. I am ready to go to my land in Upper Michigan. Sit by Lake Superior and read books. I believe love and politics. Can't be in the same room. My grandfather told me often. We don't discuss politics or religion in my home. We want to stay friends. Thank you Jacob for the amazing poetry. Made my old mind ponder and think.

they don't mix, but often they parallel one another.
Thank you, Coyote,

Politics and seduction do go arm in arm but I am not sure the pairing is conducive to love. There is an element of trickery involved just to attain a desired outcome. The mind knows what is the likely outcome but that naive heart still tries its hardest to win the day.

Love the political references here.❤️

Thank you for your insightful comments...I am glad you saw through me on this one.

You set the scene j. The candlelight and all nighters make me think it is one of seduction, but I feel there is something else here which is hidden.
