Hmmmm! A v-e-r-y thought provoking write, dear J... Until I read this captivating poem, I would never have believed that politics and love could be spoken in the same breath, not to mind to be linked together! Are there politics in love too? Being with him, wearing a beautiful smile, hand in hand and all for show! What a SHAM!!! Simply putting on an act. Who can be trusted in love or in politics now days? What is real, what is fake? Somehow I see this metaphorical gem as being in connection with Melania and Trump? All for show to give the impression of a solid marriage in order to take people in and get more people to vote for him! Forgive me, please J, for being incorrect, if I am. Very insightful write also. I enjoyed reading in spite of myself! Thank you for sharing, dear J... Lovely work!!! Well done!!!
"Faithful are the wounds of a friend but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." Proverbs 27:6 In money or love; politics or religion, adventure or misadventure, it comes back to the decision of who you trust. And, in that choice, I've found it's always helpful to know who your real friends are. I enjoyed the read.

Strange, Lucy was always able to convince Charlie Brown to kick that football as though everything worthwhile was available inside it, if we did. HA!! Even stranger, whether by candlelight, a full moon, or the blazing sun, the central contradiction that our nation was founded on has never been truly resolved. And the meal before us is voracious and will devour us, perhaps all humanity, in extreme pain. Ah yes, like the "good Germans" before us, we become "good Americans", eating with our heads bowed and eyes closed, hoping for better days??!! -Curt

The savvy lover who knows the demographics. Clever tone with a hint of sexy... "The incumbent curve of your smile" is delicious. I hope YOU smiled when you penned that one.
It sounds as though someone is campaigning emotionally and making those promises that won't be kept. I say let the mind trump the heart here and seek a better candidate.

Metaphorically speaking, of course.
thank you, John.

this is a very interesting piece that plays with election lingo and brings it into a romantic setting. the candlelight burns and waves as i read this, which is juxtaposed by the whiff of politics. it is as if the preidential candidates have intruded in the most intimate moments.
forgive me if im wrong, but i read this text as a satire on the politicization of everything. while we should be attentive to the actions of one's government, i find it weird that these debates have spilled into our daily lives. that's just my opinion, and i would love to hear what made you write this.

and yes, so much hypocrisy on both sides...and in love it is simply a bill that will not pass.
There was a song once about the politics of dancing which at the time was for me a metaphor for the politics of moving into love from an initial acquaintance stage. Sometimes, well a lot of the time the mind and the heart don't agree, but the heart casts the vote while the mind tends to analyse, quite tardily....
I am very tire of politics. I am ready to go to my land in Upper Michigan. Sit by Lake Superior and read books. I believe love and politics. Can't be in the same room. My grandfather told me often. We don't discuss politics or religion in my home. We want to stay friends. Thank you Jacob for the amazing poetry. Made my old mind ponder and think.
