Poisoned Sprinklers

Poisoned Sprinklers

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Poisoned Sprinklers

green lawns run away and hide

under blankets of turned leaves

and white snow

all with no conscience

as to what their impact

is to the damaged blades

disenfranchised

disengaged

disinherited

dying in droves

next spring will come

but the lawns

will be nothing

but dirt lots

with posted signs

warning trespassers

to "Keep Off."

Ah Jacob... this reminds me of my younger self who woke up to find all the trees going bald and thinking the cold had murderated them all! (I'm pretty sure we got a warning each year beforehand, but it was always a shock to me!) 😃
I still find it shocking, but more in a "who's gonna clean all that mess up" way thslan thinking snowmen are evil. 😃

You cannot trust someone with a carrot nose!
I like your word "Murderated"!
I like. Our backyard seems to pick an exact moment each year to give up the ghost, then my work is done till spring. ~Jim

Yes, those ghosts like to haunt for seasons...
thank you, Jim,

at first i didn't pick up the political allegory of this poem, but it sure does read differently when it comes to mind. there are many who lament the turning of the wind and the wave of hate that is oncoming is felt in the air. hate overpowers love, sometimes. but it will be a brief victory. the leaves will turn green again, if we start taking care of the soil now.

Sounds like a man that enjoys a nice lawn. But next spring will come. I think the lesson is that we all need to take a step towards the middle

It would seem so, D.
thanks for the words,

A political write, I feel sure j. The future is so uncertain. You will have a new President soon and with that comes change. Hoping sincerely that the poison is under lock and key and won’t be sprinkled to cause havoc.

A great play with words in this metaphoric gem, dear J... Who knows what the leaves are covering up! I feel there will be many surprises next year in your beautiful country. I think 2025 will be a year filled with danger too, but with all my heart I pray not! We have our elections here next Friday and I am praying our same coalition government get in again. Can't think what our country will become under the government of Sinn Féin! God protect us and God protect and bless America too! Brilliant inking and thank you for sharing, J...

Most welcome always, dear J...
I believe everything our next president touches will be poisoned including his enemies; it should be just lovely!!! But the lowly bought his lies so be it
Warmly, B🌷

From fake grass comes fake news for me permeated my thoughts through reading this write I suppose because I hate artificial lawns. However, I think today the grass is no longer greener on the other side of the fence and if it is it could be artificial.
