that ship has sailed

that ship has sailed

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

that ship has sailed

goodbye to eloquent standing

my voice failed the moment

the audience sat starefully

chewing their mints methodically

expecting strict verse

and getting just a few askew

words in a mutinous cacophony

the poems did not want to be read aloud

they were embarrassed by their own sound

no voice could assuage

the audience sat starefully

unable to digest

what they were hearing

then it was time for the snacks

laced with critique

and court marshals

for the mutineers.

Mutiny on the bounty! Will the poet and the poems walk the plank? At least uninterested the audience didn’t say off with his head. It seems like everyone was bored, a formality maybe. A most entertaining write with comical consequences.

Yes, this poet still has his head....barely.
j.
That is why anything I write is for thought only and not spoken.
"then it was time for the snacks
laced with critique
and court marshals
for the mutineers.".... Exactly!

What gruelling moments, these times can be, and I shall never envy anyone in said position nor wish it in others when such befalls me!

From "methodically" to "cacophony", brilliant.
I would be scared to read any of my poems to a crowd and then critique would be painful. This poem put me there and boy I like this, anything that transports me somewhere else from reading I love. Thank you for sharing.
