Curious Things

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Curious Things

I thought what I wrote was art
pondered famous paintings
and not so famous paintings
thinking that was art

I looked at sculptures and graffiti
assumed it was just more art
saw magicians ply the art
of sleight-of-hand
I saw complicated cathedrals
structures displaying intricate
art in their patterns

I thought what I wrote was art
and then knocked on my new neighbor's door
he introduced himself as Art---
I was so discombobulated
so flummoxed
I returned to my house
having forgotten to ask for the cup of sugar
which was the purpose for my visit

So, I sat down at my table
took my coffee with just cream
and read some of my poetry
which I thought was art.

You should have taken a moody black and white picture of your sugar bowl and titled it empty vessel Jacob. The best art is the art you never expect to find.
I am currently "artless" yet I am completely fascinated by the cover of an old photography book right now. Its called "an eye on the world" by David Peat and consists of a black and white picture of a young and fashionable woman, but the pic is taken from behind her and it is the look of bemusement, astonishment and envy from the two staring old biddies that speak a thousand words to me.
Please Google it or check on a book store site to see what I mean. 😃
