the disguise isn't working

the disguise isn't working

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the disguise isn't working

your composure

is of compost means

the silent anger

spreads across your face

Churning inside is the dying

you experienced years back

your manhood strangled by her words

the great will sooner or later fall

your collapse

grits its teeth

the microphone seared

a devil's breath

the clock strikes the hour

hell freezes over

and you with it.

A lovely way to collapse! But I think we've all experienced a "special" hour, looked at our clock - stared at it. Thanks, Jacob.

I was wondering if this is something you wrote to/about me LOL :) My façade is as thin as one of the few hairs still hanging about my head sometimes I can barely recognize myself these days so I'm feeling a bit of empathy with this poem. However my old friend as an afterthought I must make mention of the fact you will can and always shall be able to wrap yourself in a hell of a lot of poetry

A strong women’s words can make or break a man and his ego. He may be thriving externally but slow death happening inside him as if she put cyanide poison in his every day orange juice here in this poem her words against him.

Just a working poet, Kelly...but thank you for that.

During those periods when Ted Hughes was putting marks on her arms, Sylvia Plath visited her father's grave for the first and only time. Not to see if he was dead, but to see if he had lived. Was he the Nazi for a little girl? Could human reason (intuition) create some union with the divine through contemplation? Many men have gone to the grave, confused and fanciful, and called it love. While other men just say f**k this world and everyone in it and dissolve. dana

I agree wholeheartedly with your response, expecially the last line of it.

i read more into this poem than just the crushing blow a woman can deliver to men's egos .. and self assurance .. when a woman learns to wield such power in words, looks and inflection .. any man can crumble ... when it turns to the fall of the great it takes on wider meaning for me .. i especially like the mic seared by the devil's breath .. in the USA and this election cycle one would think the searing so great cords would melt and words would not make it to the public ear ... America has been through this kind of thing before ... divided country and all ... and has survived .. a little history will gain a lot of comfort if it was just being taught and referred to in the light of hope .. strong poem ... thought provoking for me sir!

I appreciate your words here, E.
thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Some guys are very vulnerable to the words of a woman, perhaps because their self regard is based on feminine approval. When a woman says the right words in the right way, their self image is shattered and they never get over it. This one seems to be about such a man.
