the unknown poet

the unknown poet

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the unknown poet

i think i emerged extinct
yesterday morning
the sun did not rise
but turned in sorrow

all my words
pirouetted into dust
and no one remembered me
or my letters

the last one i wrote
to memory
was forgotten in an instant
a poem sat and stared at me

but i could not conjure its name
or place a title.

You need never to feel that way, but then, when something dawns on a gentle mind, words like yours above hit home, turn off logic but - turn on a type of fragility, a questioning of worth, or reason to be. But, in setting your words, you the man, carries his own worth.. here and now.

Better to doubt than be arrogant.. and the latter you certainly are not, sir.
Really, which of us poets will be remembered? The Walt Whitmans and the Ezra Pounds, maybe. What will be remembered, though, is certain works that speak to human needs. No one remembers W.E. Henley, but his "Invictus" is immortal

Yep, the world went "Underground" that day, right along with Dostoevsky but now and then we need a little "pirouetted dust" to make us slam the philosophies and poetry like Nietzsche..the hammer man. You done good J. Grand enough to feel the margins tearing. Enjoyed it!

I have a habit, every few years, of purging almost all of my online poetry, so this spoke to me. ~Jim
