the ones who brought us here

the ones who brought us here

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the ones who brought us here

the real ones passed
years ago
blood thinned
skin deep posture
she was beautiful
but the gold inside
was fool's

he captained the ship
with his steady heart
and now the course
is off by degrees
of sorrow

I am steering into the wind
sad moments
waves causing memories
interpretations of what they were
a drop of that blood
reigns solemn in my heart
understanding is the island
my bow points to

and gold is but an accessory
as we wear our lineage
with proud redress

"the ones who brought us here" ... how far back do i go, jacob .. :) the blood is thinned .. no doubt about that ... hard not to say we are all one blood; but that one drop that reigns still no matter whose heritage .. i love that .. we can take pride in our families somewhere along the line ... forgiving any infamy. your poem inspired and reminded me to appreciate my parents and those who came before ..

ps. everybody wishes they were Irish tho :))))))))))))))

I am glad you found yourself relating to the words, E.
thanks for your words,
j.
This poem dear J about your mom and dad touched me deeply. Your memories reminded me of my own parents.

Interpretations of what they were, and these days I do acknowledge along with their fantastic achievements, that they weren’t perfect, same as me. Who is?

But their influence is ever present. Yes, we are a chip off the block of them and I understand myself better when I reflect on their living days. Part of them lives on in us. They still steer my ship.

This is a beautiful write and I can tell you are as proud of your roots as I am of mine.

Chris

very proud...thank you for your understanding review, Chris,

A beautiful allegorical write for your parents, I feel. Dad has been of course since Mam passed away lost in his sadness. Their blood runs through your veins and now you are getting ready to take over as Captain of the ship, to succeed your Dad and make amends for past injustices. Most likely my interpretation is way off, J... Great write! Thank you for sharing, dear poet...

Lovely write. Ancestors leave a trail which we end up travelling on maybe inadvertently but it's there to puck up the pieces.

Yes, they do leave a trail...thank you, andrew,

What I see here is a wonderful mix of moments in time using metaphors that work so well with your thoughts.
Clever usage of these memoirs which for me convey life.
The words that I especially drawn to are ...
reigns solemn in my heart
understanding is the island
my bow points to ...
Loved this...

Thank you for your words, Arundas,

The most beautiful writing of ancestry, their strengths and their foibles. Cast in a beautiful metaphor, the sea is always great. As always, you have many wonderful lines, and I stand looking windward as I look into the past, and the wind carries us forward. Brilliant.

Thank you for your kind review, Soren....yes, this one hit home for me as I wrote it.

A great poem on the American history, its founders, the legacy and constitution they left, creating a great nation that is losing all its morals, values, great ideas.
Long subject but worthy of the author to mention and lament.
